I like the rhino made of mud a lot more than these. The whole "birds on his back" thing is a nice touch. The Rhino could just be a mount for an avian character who pulls it right up from whatever ground he is on. Could be fun to do a few different textures for different environments like swamp, desert, rocky earth, grassy field, tundra, etc.
Either way, definitely keep the birds. They could serve any number of uses but really try to find a way to work it into the mythology of your character, they'll work better if you know why they're there and you're not just including them as a design element.
which idea specifically ? lol

thanks,
the idea was meant to be using the earth theme, and there's not a lot of grassy plains monsters that I'm aware of, so I though it could be cool.
The birds are mostly in there to link the rhino to the evil guy using the sword, because birds sit on rhinos backs and black birds are evil.
I'll do another Mud Rhino and see what people think.
sorry, it was more the general idea of controlling a mud monster i liked rather than any specific concept execution. The first sketch is the most appealing though the rider is kind of generic, maybe something tribal but unconventional would suit the weapon power more? bare skin covered in bleached mud, limbs entwined in roots and branches growing off the weapon with some sort of iconic and unusual mask - http://www.zyama.com/mossi/mossi.birdmask.g.jpg

Thanks for the ideas and the reference. I think I might do another drawing of the rider with a helmet as his magical artifact.
anyway this is what I've got for the mud rhino so far
as for the mythology of it I still haven't figured it out but so far, it's basically like Mr tribal birdy man goes round with his summoning thing then it's all like ah crap a rhinos comming out of the ground MOOOO .....
Mr Birdy : death to all those who oppose me!!
rhino: mooooo

Great concept! Just make sure it doesnt look like a guy riding a giant turd.

lol I'll do my best.
Thanks so much everyone, this is my first try at Dominance War so your encouragement/crits means a lot to me . Atm i'm working on the rider/ weapon, will post an update later.
thought about Guass's and other peoples comments that an earth rhino doesn't make sense and stuff, and I was thinking I probably should just make a standard rock man holding some kinda orby thing. that way at least I can model it and it won't look like a "giant turd" or too weird.

Actually, the Rhino DOES make sense to me... If I had to turn a Rhino into some form of elemental, it WOULD be Earth / Stone.

hmm well I could keep playing around with different things with the rhino idea, but I dont really like the idea of making a massive mole giant like Guass did with the paint over (looks great though). I originally thought maybe the horns could be roots or ant hills but I dunno. I don't know if I should keep going or just start over or just stick with the mud rhino and just try to model it for practice.

Thought I should really do thumbnails before going crazy.

Why not making him stand on his feets? Right now he looks like hes sitting is the mud and it looks very unnatural.
Cool idea
