yeah that's a cool concept .. but concerning the polycount I think the horns will be quite greedy.. without the horns I'm sure 9000tri would be fine but of course, a moose without the horns..
(no matter what you decide, the guy is pretty awesome by itself )
I almost hit a moose this fall in my truck, looking forward to seeing this completed. And if the moose didn't have antlers it probably just finished the mating season and getting ready for winter. They sure don't look as stunning without them, just as tasty though.
Heres a small update. I've been working on the armour for a while now. Im doing placeholders so that i can start detailing every part later on.
Trying to do some fur (didnt use any ref now thou) with mixed tools in zbrush. Its going to be hard to make it look good.
I might make one mesh of the leatherparts then just skulpt ontop of them....but well see.
lol, you crazy scandinavian there :P
will make sure to find you on the battlefield! (and see who got the best of whom, 9k budget or you!)
good luck!(not >:P)
Sorry for not posting in a couple of days, really needed to take a break from that DW3 crunch
Here is a update on the head, I just want to have fun in zbrush so the viking get a really old face. I thought that it would be cool if he was really old, but powerfull. This because of the giant that are locked up in his body.
Here is some work on the proportions. Made him stockier, and yes ill keep those fingers...onestly
The only thing that strikes me as a bit odd (beside the bags under his eyes) is the way his mustache seems seperated from his beard. I think they would be much more intertwined.
Mean! Like it. Obviously hands and what not are WIP. You know greentooth would fit nicely in that circle on his belly. Like the stitching on the skirt thing. Pretty cool.
WickedFingers: Sweet. Maby change his name to "Bags"...
8FtSpider: Point taken. Going to try a blend with the playdoomustach and the beard.
Cody: Thanks mate. Yup well see if i can fixa a bearded greentooth on there
I've been keeping my eye on this thread, not being too sure where it was going... But now, yeah I see this really could turn into something wicked. The sculpting is definately solid.
Very good balance between busy and 'quiet' parts, very easy on the eye. 's gonna be a top job Belltann.
Can't wait to see how the beard will turn out. And of course the moose... oh, how I want to see that moose.
Vitor: Glad you like it.
pestibug: Oh, hehe, thanks Im scared of the beard, just need to conquer it.
kakikukeko: Thanks.
Davision3D: Hmm..good point. Can always make em bigger afterwards in photoshop.
Here is todays work. Feelt like starting some detailing. Dont like it when masks becomes pixleated in zbrush..so ill just do the runes when ive rendered out the first normal. Damn fur, it wont stay sharp...
damn thats crazy!
love how the name and style / character coincide brilliantly [i pretty much had imagined wat ths character would look like just by the name, and u pretty much hit all the points i was expecting]
add moar fur!
lol j/k
but yea its realy awesome. can't wait to see it done!
Looking good Belltann. The fur isn't reading as fur from far away though (the fur sticking through his armor), maybe pushing it out a bit more on a lower level might help?
Hell Yea!: Thanks mate.
indian_boy: Yea, he is a bit Ulf-isch. Fur is pain, but no pain no gain....
Jaco: Yup, it looks crap acctually. Going to remove them from the armour and fix it the fur seperatly.
Irreal: thanks. No comment.
here is the last update for a while...going back to sweden for some holiday. Starting to regret that i chose to do so much furry'ness, its hard as F.
! are u going to do the moose? if so, i have a question for ya. are u worried about the normal map being shrunkun too much with the moose takin up a lot of space? i was wondering if thats an issue since i have giant wings on my character and i think that is causing all of my pieces to be too small on my texture sheet. any suggestions? maybe u can take a look at my thread? its got my UVs and i want to know if there is enough texel density to do a good normal map. thanks!
nice head sculpt, I think those bags under his eyes should have a little bit of puffy volume, right now it looks to me like someone has sneaked up and deflated them completely.
Slosh: Hi, no not really, you just have to try and keep the normalmap a bit extreme. By copying the normalmap layer, in photoshop, and doing a overlay on it self it will really show of the normal much better.
Ged: Thanks. Ok, I like em as deflated, but they still need more work. I dont have the reference photo (an old photo of a smith) on this comp but ill throw it on here when i get to it.

hawken: Yup they will definilty be angled when i modell him, I'm just being lazy at the moment.
Jackablade: I'll see what i can do.
I did a quick concept on the hammer over lunch but my imagehost is very slow today. I'll see if i can post it tonight.
9000 tris+timelimit...cheeses...
Ah well paintball tomorrow
good stuff!

[/ QUOTE ]... is an over-developed cow.
9000 polys is loads. The character's silhouette isn't especially complex so much of the detail should be able to be conveyed with the normal map.
I'll start with the modeling now. Until new updates, here are the result of paintballing. That shit hurts.

corrosion: Thanks. O, dont mention the 9-number will ya, gives me the creeps.
8FtSpider: Ditto.
Here is the shoulderguard. It took a while but the folding seems to work alright. Well, see ya tomorrow!

The nice details on his rock will hardly show up in the normal.

it will realy show all the smaller details so much more

Decided to try a different method of doing the beard, so now i removed the old one and prepairing it for a beard sub tool.
cheers!
