What the hell, I know I'm never going to get anywhere with this, but it's too much fun to resist.
Uredo Animus [latin, "Blight Soul"]
quick sketch to start...
I guess he's kind of a cross between Swampthing and The Flood. That's probably not original enough.
Race: undead treant? I'm not sure...
Class:Clericon
Artifact type: vegetation
Binds and saps enemies with his twin thorn dagger things, provides health to allies through the fruit from his tree.
I guess the tree would really be the artifact. I wonder if that's within the rules.
close up idea for head:
his eyes are sunflowers
Ok well that was fun!

I'd strongly reccomend doing some thumbnailing to workout the best way to take your character from here.
I decided having the tree on his back was best, gives it more of a sense of burden on the guy.
So this is where I'm at so far. I really like the idea of the artifact user being pierced/impaled by their artifact. So in this case, the zombie guy was killed by the magical sword of growth. After decaying for a while a tree sprouted near the sword in the guys back and was imbued with its magical powers. Its roots snaked out and replaced the guys muscles, reanimating the body. So really the artifact user is the tree and the guy is his mount. The artifacts magical properties of growth cause the tree to flower with the golden fruit of rebirth.
Any thoughts?
The sword is in his mouth
Interesting, but I can't quite picture him fighting off evil hordes of robot invaders.

Just make that orange in his hand a bomb, and hive him a hot air baloon
So is the fruit that the Christmas beetles are carrying off going to be a weapon dropped from the sky like a bomb or a healing fruit airlifted to friendly troops?
e: as far as his abilities, his berries are imbued with magical powers of regeneration, so he mainly would use them to heal allies. I guess they could be used as weapons as well in some way or another.
If you have trouble with polycount just reduce the polys on the branches as they get thinner. Like you said, you have way too many polys on the tree. Should be easily fixed though. I don`t think you have to reduce branches really. Just reduce polys on them
I'm also going to bring his bag, rope, ring, and beetle into zbrush, as soon as I figure out subtools, or by some other method.
I had to cut it down to one beetle and one bag, but that's ok.
