I like the character, but I agree that its not quite on the theme. After all, Im not seeing much in magical artifacts, or magic anywhere. And Im not sure the tech required to give someone an air supply would be allowed.
i say if you can come up with a way for the idea to be brought about with 'primitive' tech and be able to bring that across in the concept then go for it.
an air artifact could be able to channel/compress air into a container, for example. he's looking too 20th century Earth right now.
Nice thumbs and there is a whole lot with some interesting silhouettes. Though as I saw your development, I thought there was a bit too much tech going on. But ComradeJ was quick to flag it.
Keep at it, mate. From what you've shown so far, it doesn't seem like you're too far away from knocking together a sweet concept. Good luck.
I also think the back steam thingy makes him look too un-magically-ness. Maybe if the armour or mask or something was more woody or rocky or natural element style kinda thing he'd look a lot more magic themed.
sorry to be negative but you're riding the thin line of the competition rules. Why not push in the opposite direction instead of trying to get in an entry that they specifically don't want you to make?
Dump the mechanical stuff, armor, space suit and so on. You're just flogging a dead horse.
Think more sword and sorcery. Less space and science.
Hawken- What exactly do you see thats high tech on this guy? I'm getting this from a few people and I am sincerely curious. I'm not in love with this concept by any means so I would be more than happy to make changes or scrap the whole thing if it leads to a better final product.
"Post-apocalyptic futuristic fantasy where magic exists" Right now I do think he lacks any real clear connection to the artifact element of the story, but fits right in Post-apocalyptic future. I based him off WWII Uniforms and Spanish Conquistadors.
yeah from what i get in the rules, stay away from anything that an emp blast would disable..
i also guess that it was a special emp blast that also stops water from producing steam.. so no electronics or steam and you shuold be good. unless theres secret rules that pop up.
He's looking fantastic. With the right artifact, he'll be there. And as for what el zorr said about the magic, they mentioned that warlords can still use magical equipment. Something to consider, but not an absolute necessity I guess. Besides, that uniform makes it for me.
i like it .. and i think its boring riding the magic-cliche-line
we don´t have to care what we are "supposed" to make.. as long as we don´t go against the rules.. and armor has nothing to do with electronics
otherwise this would kill all the creativity
matt: if you want to improve the idear.. think about, how all these peaces of armor and cloth could be made without any electric-power.. they would look more rough and basic
Gauss just helped me out with a paintover so I might have to rethink some of these changes. Big thank you to Gauss, You Rock.
Possessed Teddy Bear Artifact. Salvaged from the demonic Polycount planet after the second great war. Teddy is ill tempered so watch your fingers, he bites.
Trying some other directions. More character sketches to follow, after homework
She has a vegetation (Forest)talismen on her forhead. Dark tree bark and vines have grown out from the artifact and spread all over her body, creating a sort of living
armor. The talisman also grants this sorceress other natural magic powers ( I havent quite decided on what just yet ) to fight her enemies. Living in an ancient forest with her new suit she is able to blend in and move swiftly through the tall trees. etc...
(I don't really like the tail so imagine her without it)
I fucking love those feet. Straight up mortarhead FSS goodness, right there.
I have to say the design reads better to me as if the tree-arms-legs were one object and she was attached to it as a whole (front view), than if parts are connected to her at different places (side view). Forgive me if I make little sense.
I really like your last design! I would definitely lose the tail because of how it is placed and you don't need it for the overall design of the character. This looks like it will be fun to do.
AaAAAwesome haha.
Jeez matt I love Your concepting style, and teddy bear idea is hilarious haha love it.
The lady is great, if U can move teddy bear on her it will be decent one.
Dig it.
I really like your first design because it feels really post-apocalyptic and I love how fun it feels. The design is well thought out.
The second design is great as well, very magical and powerful. I don't think many people are going to go the vegetation route, so your entry will stand out.
I think if you could take the post-apocalyptic humour and the sexy magic from the second and mash them together in your next concepts you'd have a winner!
tree golem chick is pretty cool. but the guy in the bug suit made me sputter and make silly noises...that has to mean something right. he is like a bum who becomes king of disneyland after california gets wiped out or something.
keep playing with other things if you must...but dont abandon him just yet,

I do like it as a character, but I just don't know if it fits with the theme.

Do you guys think that weapon fits this character though?
You'll certainly have a unique entry if you keep going without
magic glowy bits . Cool stuff.
lol i kid... but yea.. no steam powerdness.. make it diesel!
the stuff's looking awesome!
loved your wrk last year.. lets see what you pull off this year!
Indian_boy - I'll add in some glowy bitz just for you.
Keep at it, mate. From what you've shown so far, it doesn't seem like you're too far away from knocking together a sweet concept. Good luck.

I'm trying to go a post apocalyptic route but I'm hearing from some people that it is still to modern looking, thoughts?
El Zorr - He supposed to be a warlord, I think they don't need to use magic.

ubsolutelay bryliyant!
made me lose my language skillz for a sec.
love the new direction. looks more adherent to the theme too!

I like the feet, very stylish. overall very stylish.
Sorry to be so critical of your previous design, but this is more like it
Hawken - No apology necessary. Critiques are how we help each other get better, so keep em coming.

Vanessa - Yup yup, I trashed the tail. Although I still feel like something should be on her back.. we'll see
I need to do a few more sketches before I can start modeling this weekend.
