Hey guys, first time posting on PolyCount. Looking forward to this challenge. I plan on doing the V-Rex from Ubisoft's King Kong. Gonna start this guy tomorrow for sure!
Yeah, the contest ends soon. You're really going to have to hurry to get it done in time.
If you don't think you can get it done in that time frame, don't worry. The Dominance War is going to be starting up shortly after this contest ends. It's going to be one of the biggest game modeling contests ever held. Oh yeah, and welcome to Polycount.
Just showing a little progress. Got a chance to work on him during my lunch break. Right now I'm just trying to get those shapes in there quick. So I know the silhouette isn't dead on. But comments and critiques welcomed!
Worked on it at home a bit, just put in a little time. But I'm thinking of making him a tad exagerated and fun as far as body type goes. Comments and crits appreciated
Looking good. But I think the head might be a bit too large at the moment. (in proportion to the rest of his body) Also, I think the hump on his back shouldn't be there. (the one right above his legs) I don't think there is actually a hump on his back at that point, it just looks like that in the reference image because of the perspective. The polycount is definitely turning out well. You've got some good blocking for just 426 tris. And there's enough left over to give him some titchy little forearms and perhaps some alpha-masked teeth.
From what I gather from Wikipedia, V-Rexes are just really big T-Rexes (like Kong being a giant gorilla. Some creative genius at work there) but with a shorter skull. Which means you can get Orthographic side views !

I know the heads still large, I mainly worked with the legs and feet last night and did some practice with rigid binding. Fun stuff. But the picture up top Im just using to show what the goal is I suppose. That hump I believe is its hip. But I got a series of Ortho views of the V rex and tons of ref. But thanks for the feedback!

I agree, thus it isn't my reference but there just to give everyone an idea of what I'm shootin' for.

Thanks for that link! Im also looking at the wildlife of skull island book released from Weta. They have some great side orthos and detailed shots of the Vrex. Thanks again!
