Anyone know how to achieve a parallax mapping effect using 3dsmax's shaders, specifically for rendering with mental ray? Or a way to shift texture coordinates depending on camera angle.
Can't do mental ray, but I have a real-time parallax occlusion (tartarchuk's, not the mediocre poliocarpo implementation) here: http://www.robg3d.com/shaders.html#pom
No answer to your needs but on a side note. Professor420 checked out your Uber shader, very cool. Is there anyway to do shadows in in the viewport? Max 2008 does viewport shadows now but I am not seeing them working with .fx shadders in there. Also anyway to add multiple lights to the Uber shader without too much bulk? Just curious, works very nice as is.
is there a reason you don't want to use displacement maps.. or.. I believe the full version of mental mill will save out a mental ray shader from the network you create (at least that's the plan, not sure if they've gotten there yet) so you could try making your parallax shader in there and exporting it.. you can dl the beta fro mthe mental images site.
