Yeah, I always thought Seaquest was a pretty under rated sci-fi for its time. Although it fell apart in latter seasons.
Roy was 75 and fighting blood cancer (if I recall). I was really quite surprised to know he was that old. He certainly didn't look it. Space network in Canada is showing Jaws2 this week I believe so that will be a welcome watch.
Yeah, multiple myeloma, which is basically cancer in the blood. That's what my dad died of last year. It's pretty sad at the end because your bones become extremely brittle.
