I think out of a lot of games to hit recently over the past few months, this has to be the biggest let down. Just watching the game, you see that they could of pulled off something so good... But no. From the awful last gen graphics (I'm talking 256x256 res skins on people), to the out dated control, it just takes the mick.

Let me tell you why I hate it so much. Is it the game itself? No. The graphics? No, as poor as they are, no. Its the view, or lack of should I say. The FOV in this game is zoomed in, all the time. Think about playing Quake 3 or something with FOV 60 and your about there. Its THAT bad. The controls are so poor that you cant hit anything. Drop the sensitivity down to the lowest, and your crosshair jumps a mile even with the smallest nudge. So, the fact you cant see anything combined with the fact you cant hit anything... Makes... for an awful game.

Honestly, games design took a bad seat on this one. Why, oh why, should I walk up to a ladder, and be treated to an extreme close up of the back of my lead guy, just so I can see how bad the artwork is, for example?

Seriously, the guys that made this, they need to not make anything else for a while until they get a little bit more of a clue, I'm THAT pissed. The artwork for the most part is ok, the Dinos look good. The animation isn't half bad, and when watching it, you see it trying to shine so bad, trying to impress... But alas, every time, it falls so short.

Has anybody else played this mess of a game? What do you think? Have you managed to play it for about 20mins without having to look away because it hurts your eyes thanks to the FOV?

    I played the demo and wasn't that impressed. The close encounters were a good idea but they weren't executed very well. The vegetation looked pretty nice, for an Unreal Powered game, it didn't show off any of the tool set.

    with so many other good FPS already out *cough* COD4! It's going to be a hard sell.

    Which is what shocked me, because at some stage they must of just said "hey, you know how UE3 seems to be able to give the player good control, it gives him a nice FOV, and yo ucan really tweak your controls? Well, lets mess with that!"

    Man, I was looking forward to another Turok for a long time. I played the demo and there is NO way I'm ever picking up the full thing. Especially since things like COD4 and Orange Box have yet to be played by me and are both clearly a better FPS experience. I disliked it more or less for your reasons, I just wasn't THAT impressed. Then again, I'nm the guy who hates Assassin's Creed and loves Conan...so maybe I should lay off the drugs or something.

    Which reminds me, I got an art book free with the game, and I have to say its all fucking awesome. They show you pics of say, Turok, that look GREAT, then you compare them to the final model and its shite. The same goes for all the people and weapons too... They just lost the plot and went with the easiest version it seems.

    I expected great things, I think someone owes it to the gaming community to make another good turok game.
    I'd really rather play the original turok...

    I stopped "sucking off" devs a long time ago jsut because they were devs. When you release a bad product, you need to know that, so that you dont make another.

    Trouble is, with Turok, the problems could be pushed aside with just a few fixes, such as configurable controls, better sensitivity settings for both normal aim and zoom, and of course, giving us a proper FOV and not that POS we had at retail.

    Of course none of it will matter. They have the money now.

    I think you need a reality check odium.. and learn a thing or two about being critical but not offensive. This might be a revelation to you but a whole lot of things can be out of dev's controls during a development cycle of the game.. And there are numerous factors that affect that final quality of a game. There is no objective marker that determines a good game from another..

    It has nothing to do with "sucking off" devs but realizing that people can work just as hard on a mediocre title as people on a prime title. So a person can work very hard but unfortunately not please you in the way that you wish.

    There is some good quality artwork on Turok so it would be a disservice to people's hard work to just open your mouth with nothing but rants and run-on sentences.

    Remember, be courteous ... You are in a place full of devs from all kinds of places. Some of them worked on some grand AAA titles and some may have not.

    People have learned to stay respectful of eachother's work, especially on the artistic level. Because aesthetic quality of art doesnt determine whether or not the final product is popular.

    That's something you should learn too. At the end of the day, these people still put their names behind their work, only for you to spread your verbal diarrhea and hide behind your online anonymity.

    Theres respect, then theres jsut being nice for the sake of being "nice". Should I be nice about a singers music even if its rubbish just because they are a singer? No. I can say whatever I please, at the end of the day, its my money that lines the pockets of these people, right?

    The bottom line is Turok is a mess. Half of its great art wise, the rest is so old it looks like a throw back to the PS2 days. Its random, and its annoying. But thats not the major problem, as I said. The major problem is the fact the devs took the time to make things worse. The FOV was made more narrow because it helps to combat frame rate loss, since less is drawn, obviously, but was it a good move? No. What about the aiming? Was this game play tested at all?

    Turok has a lot going for it. If you re-read my post you will see thats what I think. Unfortunatly I'm not about to "play nice" just because a few devs are on here. I'm a dev myself, and I've had harsh words given towards me in the past just as much. Trouble is, I know those harsh words were true.

    I'd much rather see Turok 2 fix all these flaws, rather than release it with the same ones just to make a quick buck.

    If you're not going to show some tact the least you can do is be respectful in how you put your 2 pennies on the table. This isn't directed towards you specifically odium, it's just my thoughts on how I think fellow developers should conduct themselves when offering PROFESSIONAL criticism.

    I agree in that Turok was a disappointment.

    I was fortunate enough to see the game through its development process as the company I work for worked on the multiplayer for the game. The earlier stuff we saw was a HELL of a lot better than what made it in to the game so there are definite reasons - outside of the control of 'artist' - that made the game ship in the state that it did. What that was exactly I can't say that I know. I can say though that the guys at Propaganda put a LOT of effort in to this product only to get a rather lack-luster result in the end which makes me believe it was more technical reasons over aesthetic ability.

    Again though, I think the MP turned out great. I wasn't on the Turok team specifically so please don't think my opinion is a biased one. I really think it turned out to be quite fun. A bit 'oldschool' in its design but fun none-the-less.

    I wasn't really looking at it from a fellow developers point of view. I realize that tons of shit happens that are out of the artist's control to make the game not so great. I think it goes without saying that they deserve respect for putting out a AAA title. As a gamer though and a long time fan of the Turok series, I was really disappointed.

    The same goes for my feelings on Ass Creed (sorry, I know it's kind of unrealted to this thread topic) I think it's great that they put it out and they must be really proud of themselves. I'd kill to be a part of the series as a developer...huge gold star on the resume. But as a gamer, especially one who was expecting something PoP-ish...I hate the game.

    I just assumed this was from a gamer's "I want to have fun playing this / I want to enjoy this" point of view rather than a technical analysis. But it does fall short, for sure, technically. Although it's definitely out of the artists control, it's still a valid flaw.

    I Just got Orange box and assasin's creed...I played AC for about 15 minutes then latched on to portal. AC give me hope that maybe one day we will have a really kick ass batman game..so far fun-factor goes to orange box..

    ...Shame about turok...The N64 version is what got me wanting to make games

    I've got a lot of beefs with AC, knowing I'm the minority smile.gif I can't stand that every mission is literally the same thing, fighting is really a chore (wait for them to attack, press X, win.) I would really like hoping around the city if it were more difficult. I don't like that all I have to do is hold down a button and press forward. I think a lot of my hatred stems for my want of a new PoP. I've said before to friends, again not to knock the devs, that I feel as if it's not even a game. I think you could easily do the first assassination and more or less know what the rest of the game is...because it literally is the first mission repeated 9 times. The story might be cool, but the tasks are so tedious that it takes any interest away from it.

    This doesn't really count, but I don't think I should be punished for stabbing a crazy guy that pushes me into a guard. He deserves it. Prick.

    It'd be REALLY cool if it were all open world and you could just roam around doing your thing (c'mon Batman game!) or if it were the opposite and each kill was a Splinter Cell type thing where sneaking around actually mattered and you progressed to the target. Whatever, I know I'm the minority...I still like you though Adam smile.gif

    Bought, really enjoyed it. Yeah, it wasn't as 'nextgen' as most recent shooters and cod4 had a lot more style, but I like shooters. And playing a good, well put together, classic style shooter is still really fun. Anyone who hated the demo, i still would suggest renting the game and giving it a fair try. It isn't perfect, and some levels are better than others, but it's a pretty fun shooter. And there are dinosaurs.

    Assassins creed has some awesome visuals but i hate the game play sooooo much just didn't do it for me. i have not played turok yet because my xbox 360 is shipped to get repaired so i might check out the demo when i get my 360 back. orange box for the win <3

    i'm with you man, didn't find too much i liked about that game, the traversal was cool, but the gameplay didn't do anything interesting with it. the combat was pis poor and the ai was non existent..

    god and the turok demo was atrocious.. this i think is a good thing, the more shitty shooters the better, people will eventually get tired of the barrage of shit and move on to the next genre .. reminds of the old platformer days, remember how many shitty platformers there were? and now(for the most part) only good ones are made, cause they know thats all thats going to sell.

    Don't count on it. The issue isn't exactly that simple, and neither of the genres have ever come even remotely close to a state you could call 'becoming unpopular'. Like every other genre, they simple evolve.

    Only genre ever to hold that dubious honor is the Puzzle/Adventure Genre... And Space Sim. : (

    Back on track. I was really let down with Turok. Art wise there are some really nice things I could see but the demo in the cave....please that was not even fun or a way to show off how cool / pretty the game could be.

    FOV was really annoying for me as well.

    This game was a big miss for me. I had high hopes but compared to other titles floating around it has to take a back seat.

    I think AC could have been a kickass game if it had any sort of 'progression' in the gameplay. Like in the beginning you wouldnt have all those freerunning powers and couldnt jump that far, then you'd be forced to walk amongst the streets and do minor tasks like the eavesdropping and pickpocketting. With each memory block yur skills would increase just a little bit(an ability to run up a wall, ability to jump farther, an ability to balance on poles, the different weapon(upgrades), grabbing ability etc.) and by the final Memory block you'd FINALLY have the powers you get in the beginning of the original game. *Phew* sorry for the rant but thats how I would have liked it to be laugh.gif

    Oh and about Turok, I played the demo a while ago and hated it, but decided to play it again later. The first time I missed the first weapon pickup in the caves so I didnt have the dual wielded weapons, the game is insanely hard with only one machine gun!!! They should have placed that pickup in a more obvious location, because I gave up after I died 5 times in the same spot in the caves. The second time I played it I found the second machine gun and played trough the caves level in one run! I liked the small/big friendly dinosaurs, things like that really add to the immersiveness! I also loved the knife-killing animations crazy.gif

    Spot on that is mate. Really. Because even though I've beaten some of the hardest games on 360, even managed to beat Gears on the hardest by myself, I cant do Turok on easy, when when the enemy "stands there" in front of you... But is that my fault, or the fact its next to impossible to aim in this game?

    As for the MP, its probably the best part about this game. Its very well done. Just a shame you cant hit anything because of the aiming.

Fucking wake up and stop masturbating to every Jade Raymond interview. You all got suckered into buying the game and hoping that SOMEHOW Jade would sneak naked pics of her in the box.

    Dicking around aside, I didn't like the Turok demo. I'm not sure why I even downloaded it since I really had no interest in the game. I really enjoyed the first one on the N64, though. I turned the demo off after about 2 minutes. I didn't even get to kill anything. Hahaha

    It's too dark and too monochromatic for my taste. That level was a poor choice to base a demo on. Am I correct to assume that it's near the beginning (if not the beginning) of the game?
