LPC #05 - Japhir - Mass Effect - Saren

Ok I couln't resist, and after looking through some top 20 best games lists I chose this one. (I don't play any games myself really, except for New Super Mario Bros. ) First I wanted to do this one but I figured he was a bit boring to texture.

great topology, but you gotta beef him up! The crotch, hips and chest could all stand to be a good deal thicker.

edit: that is, if you're going for a total sytlistic likeness. If you're tryin to throw a new style into the character, dont change anything and keep on rockin

thanks guys! i just saw that eclipse was doing garrus, and my initial idea seemed a bit too much like his, so i decided to change him into Saren. (even though i had already unwrapped this guy, and started on the texture . this is gonna be very hard to texture! (all the assymmetry)

looks good! we actually deviated away from the concept as he didn't feel menacing or physically intimidating with the original concept.

The pose in the sceenshots is slightly awkward as it wasn't intended for Saren to hold it.. but what can you do!

spacemonkey: OMG did you make the orignal? cool! i hope i am doing your work justice thanks for the reference! i found it pretty hard to find some decent images of him.
i unwrapped him, and somehow (i have absolutely no idea how come) i lost 2 triangles. i tripplechecked everything but there are no holes in it whatsoever... weird.

Japhir, he is looking great, I love your take on him. I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. You didn't have to change ur design, it would have just gave me something to shoot for. I am really looking forward to your texture work oh him, with all the asymmetrical elements, this is going to be interesting.

thanks! i wanted to do something more unique, otherwise they would all look alike...
the assymmetry reaaaaly makes this one hard to do, and i tend to make it look pixelated again, because any brush larger than 1 pixel is too big to define any proper detail... i first tried to block in the major shapes of black and stuff. i'm kindof disappointed tbh.

the weekend is almost over, and it's my 18th birthday next wensday so i'll probably not work on this for a while. but i will definately finish!

thanks guys! i'm sorry but i totally restarted the texture . i decided to first follow the original concept, and later maybe make it look more like the actual model (concept is easier to read imo)
