Work in progress, lots of seams, really rough skinning and generaly a bit messy at the moment but thought i'd post it up before i lose motivation to finish it.... 7390 tris, 1024x1024 diffuse, spec and normal map, haven't done gloss yet...
Looks very nice. My only crit, except the butterfly effect is his hair. Is it suposed to look like that. Right now it looks more like a mushroom to me. :P
Yeah, I agree about the hair. It's the one thing making this not completely wonderful. It looks unnatural, the way it's starts to taper out from the top of his head when it should really start tapering out lower.
long time no post jason!
Great to see ya postin again, I think everyone's pretty much touched on this model's main issues, mainly the hair.
Lookin forward to future work man.
Thanks guys, yep agreed about the hair, alpha planes on the way to transition it smoother aswell as fluff out the top edge of the hair. Got a bit lazy on this one towards the second stages, but haven't done any personal work in so long that i'd thought i'd ease into it with a fairly easy character to do. Will prob finish it off this week.
looks really great, though the first thing i noticed was his wrists, im in no way an expert on this but it kinda seems like he have a bump right before the hands and it makes the hands look kinda off, though i can't see the hands clearly from these 3 views.
hey JD nice work. Awesome model. but agree about the hair and the tattoo on the arms fixable also hes got a sharp shape poking out in his left shoulder from the image :P
Odd. I was thinking how much better your Guile flat-top looked than the usual way its illustrated. It'll always look ridiculous but for my money it works considerably better here than in the shot The Ben posted, for instance.
The thing I dont lik about it jackablade isn't the style per-se; its how its kind of layered? As it sticks out from the shaved part- it doesn't look like its a natural hairstyle. I've always pictured it as like shaved- but in a straight line on top. I don't know what its called. I'd also say the colour is off; right now it looks bleached. Natural blonde hair, built up like that is (generally) much closer to brown. Right now it has the colour of a cleanly shaven head.
Edit: found it - crew cut!
But a crew cut is so old fashioned - I'd go with something a bit more new - update the character somewhat. I'm not saying go totally whack with it but something a bit shorted - a bit more real (as you've done with the whole character)
or something alone the lines of:
Personally I think that would work so much more on the whole "making it realistic" scale.
The flat-top is undeniably one of the dumbest haircuts ever concieved prior to the emo movement, but its fundamental to Guile's character design. Without it, he's just some army guy,

I especially like arms, they are fantastic.
My only crit would be that shirt needs some asymetric folds. Rigth now, model little suffers for butterfly effect.

But like I said, I think everything else is wonderful.
did he have american flag tattoos on both arms in game? either way thats awesome.

Of course!
After all the sprites we´re mirrored when he was facing the other way.
Very nice work man!
Looks cool, although I agree with the mirroring crits.
Arms look great.
You even did the arm tattoos correctly (there IS a procedure for military arm patches):

I'd check the length of his arms. They look a bit too short. And his wrist too thick.

Has this EVER looked good?
Edit again: I think Matt Damon is the PERFECT reference for colour and style:
Bit longer perhaps but a handy reference
