OK I upped the mesh to 500 on the dot and started to lay out some lines, it's really not much progress, but I thought I might post it up to get some crits. It's really hard to find good references of his final C-Sec suit. It's like they kept changing it all the way up to the ship date. Tomorrow I am going to boot up the game and do some sketches to hopefully nail it down and get back to work....if I don't get sucked into the game and play it all night, haha.
looks solid so far. Only crit is maybe his legs should be a little slimmer? Their crazy spike-sided bird legs can be hard to read sometimes... great start on the texture man, eyepiece looks boss
Thanks Ferg, your Salarian gives me something to shoot for :P. I have barely started with some details, still blocking out lots of stuff, complicated armor :S. I thinned out the legs a little, hope it looks better.
really nice! i'm sorry i only just found out that you already picked a turian (but a more specific one), so i guess i'll change mine frome a "neutral" turian to saren. is that ok with you?

Japhir: Saw your model, looked pretty sweet. Just keep in mind that Saren has quite a few significant asymetrical features on his body that are going to demand a good deal of extra texture space. Definitely possible, though. Saren Character Sheet
Hey no problem at all man, I hope you do a great job on Saren, he is gonna be tough. There is another awesome Looking Turian at the beginning of the game called Nihlus if you want to stick to the mirrorable design.

looking great! looks like you put pretty much all the detail in there! but maybe you should try to refine the overal looks of things, make it look more like the materials they're made of, because it looks a little too painterly right now imo. keep it up!
hey Eclipse,to fix that you need to paint some slight shading and highlights.Thats what i do.Think of a pointlight over the character and try to paint the shading it would get from it.
The blue parts need to fade to darker blue on the side for example

wow you did with the head exactly what i meant for you to do for his entire body! looks great! just work on the armor some more with highlights and shadows as fuxer suggested,and you have created win
This looks great. One of the best in the competition. The only other crit I would mention would be the colour of his neck. I'd desaturate it just a tad.
And just to show off a bit more, maybe add a slight blue tint to the shadows on his head and possibly add some tiny white highlights so his head looks a bit wet.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback and crits. I just finished off his Omni-Tool, aka accessory, which weights in at 145 tris. I tried to address most of the crits, please keep them coming, I'm struggling with getting the armor to look right. Also Paul I just remembered about the neck and kicked down the saturation, but it was after I took these renders, so I did do it. Thanks again
Sorry ahead of time for the terrible pics, but they were the best I could get, I took them with a camcorder from the game. I think they match up, but I could be wrong on it. I'm really glad you like the Omni Tool, i didn't want to do a weapon because it would be kinda sameish, but MAN is it hard to figure that thing out i had to do little sketches from the TV and even then I probably messed it all up :P.
