hey im not all that good, but im sure ill learn alot from this contest. Decided to do a big daddy, but not sure where character ends and weapon begins. suggestions? its at 510 now and im sure I can finish within 600-650. So thats the weapon + character. all advice is apreciated

ok well just hit 598. so if the arm is a weapon I think that is 150 so leaves 50 tris to finish head
Then you can just use a circle in the alpha map, and rotate it slightly to make it look like a drill spiral bit.
At this small of scale, be sure as many of the UVs that can run vertically or horizontally. This will reduce the jagged, pixelated look. It looks like you've got most of that under contro, but there are a few spots that could be tightened up further. Additionall, you'll want to use every pixel of that UV sheet you've got (without too much warping of course).
For the texturing. You can try painting big, but when you scale down it'll get blurry. I find it best when working so low to just paint what you need (in the proper scale, 128), then do pixel touch-ups.
