CTRL-H hides it, but if I make some selection and ctrl-h again it pops back up.

those are slices. just click on them with the Slice Select Tool and hit delete til you've gotten rid of all of them.

Yeh, just go to Preferences>Guides Grids etc. and uncheck "Show slice numbers" and be done with it

yeah slices are for web designers

I don't know anyone whos cut up a psd with slices to make a website though, so they are pretty much a redundant feature of photoshop that should be removed

I know some 2D game developers who still use em for marking out regions in their sprite sheets though

They tend to leave out a lot of artifacts though...still worth taking it out.

i use slices all the time for cutting up icon sheets, and other elements that need to be UV'ed a specific way. double clicking a slice gives you U, V, UL, and VL information.

I never do the "save for web" junk though, shit's a waste Only time i will.. is if i want to save 20 small icons at once, it dumps them all out quickly with completely shitty names.
