BlueHost heading into oblivion?

I just moved to BlueHost. Looked good on paper, and people here recommended them. But I'm having some trouble importing my Coppermine gallery database, and their tech support is pretty slow.

I stumbled across the CEO's blog, looks like the company is headed downhill. Anyone else having problems? His most recent post is a bit unsettling too, regrets of life's decisions. Ouch.

Now I gotta find another host? Aw man. Thank god I don't have a commerce site.

I have had bluehost for years, and I still use them. Their support has always been more than helpful. It says a lot about a company whose CEO actually has the balls to say things like that in his blog. I like the no bullshit attitude, and treating customers like people.

I'd say stick through it, I sure will.

Am I missing something in his blog? What makes you think bluehost is heading downhill? The CEO basically said their company is overwhelmed with too much business lately and he is going to work his best to get back on track with such a large customer base. Seems like a positive, am I off? Been a bluehost customer for years, can't see changing.

I've had no problems with them before, ever. Very fast and reliable. Any of my tech questions were answered promptly. I guess you caught them at a bad time? I dunno.

I'm reading between the lines a bit, and seeing alarming info in the blog comments. There are quite a few customers with problems. Sure, it's mostly the people with problems that post, but many of them come across as well-informed users. Also his most recent post has interesting implications.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

Anyone using WordPress or PHP, and having problems?

They host soooo many sites i'm sure it is very easy to find TONS of people complaining about one thing or another, thats just a fact of life. Theres no company out there that pleases everyone. Bluehost works great for me, our company recently switched thier sites over to bluehost, and just yesterday my boss was commenting on how fast thier upload/download was to thier ftp.

Good to hear.

It does worry me a bit however that they upgraded all the servers and PHP versions without notifying their customers first. Breaking a lot of code without any warning is bad customer service.

I dont know about you, but I got an email stating all servers would upgrade to PHP5, and to be aware of it.

I signed up just last week, so I didn't personally witness the switchover.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it helps. Not in a hurry anyhow, the gallery isn't time-sensitive, I can wait a bit.

From what I've heard, Bluehost is one of the best shared providers around. Dreamhost is also very good as well.

It is nice to have a dedicated server If something pisses me off I just reboot my server or SSH in and fix it myself.
