yeah, max has done it again. this time, its hidden a few lines
that i created. they're hidden so well that i am unable to find it in any of the listings and not even when i try and merge the scene into a new file. the names of the objects are line04, and line05.
however, when i try and import the lines from a previously saved scene, it tells me that "line04 and line05 are already names of existing objects in the scene".
its a minor issue since i always have a backup copy of a scene in case max decides to be a whore-assed bitch like this, but its annoying as hell.
this has happened to me at least 4 times previously.

fucked up file+ non-fucked up file.

seems like the bug is a bit more elaborate than i remembered.
trying to import the lines, i get this:

    vain1.jpg
and yes, i tried unhiding, (clicked unhide 3 times) and checked for invisible layers.

and heres what the 3 objects looks like in T-55X, the scene
i imported from (you can see the name of it in Xref objects.)

i can still convert it to editable mesh, then import the lines, but fuck that, i wan't to broadcast this bug, to show how screwed up 3ds max is.

Try this - before you merge, bring up the maxscript window and type:

    select $Line04

If the object exists in the scene it will be selected, even if it is hidden.

Doing that will allow you to delete it, or even rename it.

Which file is the bad file? They're in the file with X in the name. They're the triple loops around the light/camera things on the front and the front-right chain.

edit - the one without the X is the bad file. Hmm.
edit: I figured it out. Under the display tab you had set "shapes" to hidden.

You know, sometime when a model is frozen, and "hide frozen objects" is turned on, it creates a situation where it seems like you can't find the objects.

Try unfreezing, and then unhiding as well, maybe it might work?

FYI i haven't touched the display panel in 2 years.
oh well, thanks for sorting it out.
seems like hide shapes is assigned to shift+s.
i'd say its more of a user interface error.

That it does. I'm glad that every update so far has let me import my keyboard shortcut file. I wouldn't know where to begin if I had to reassign them all. So may of these little mix ups could be cleared up if they actually thought about the default shortcuts they assign. Oh well live and learn then save out your custom UI.
