Health Issues : Anxiety?

Just recently my mother has developed a few symptoms that I, as her son, am really getting concerned with...

A few days ago she woke up and has experienced loss of voice and her throat hurts like hell...she went to our family doctor and he found out it was a swelling in her throat that caused it to be inflammed, he then gave her some cold meds and in the meantime suggest the conditions to be monitored for a few days. He also recommends that she go for a full checkup for other health issues.

She is also chronically suffering numbness from her head all the way to the left arm...literally. So far she can walk but as soon as she sits around for too long she would be feel those symptoms. ...She went to her chiropractor and so far he's stumped.

While suffering from those two known issues...she would also be unable to sleep until well late into the night.

As far as I know, she is currently 51 yrs old and I think it might be contributed to stress and anxiety but I am clueless about what I can do besides encouraging her to go for a full medical examination...

Anyone who has seen this kind of symptom I would like them to share and perhaps advise that in my case what should I do???

Hm, i only know that my father wasn't able to talk some days before he got his first stroke, which then caused him to have one side of his body pretty much paralysed for a good while.
But afaik the not being able to talk was not caused by an inflammation.

Not trying to scare you or your mother, just mentioning.
I guess the doctors would have already found out if it would be some kind of "small stroke" or similar.

A full medical checkup sounds like a good idea in any case.

Take her to doctors. we are not doctors and can only wildly speculate, and do nothing but make you worry.

You guyz have a point...as any caring son would I was very worried as all of this happened pretty sudden, I got her an appointment with one of better facilities in the area so meanwhile I'm gonna keep an eye out.

She's actually recovered a little bit from the numbness but I think that's only because its a minor stroke...sighs

Yeah...and I'm sorry if I offend, but Chiropractors aren't doctors really. What they practice is barely medicine. Its more like massage therapy with some skeletal anatomy thrown in. It's no shock your Chiro was unable to diagnose.
    Best of luck though!
My Father recently had a slew of health problems and after everything from basic antibiotics to a botched Spinal Tap they finally ran an allergy screen and figured out he'd developed an allergy to nearly 75% of the foods he consumed on a daily basis. He stopped eating those foods and almost immediately sprung back to good health. I guess the moral of the story is that western medical science does have answers but be prepared to spend a lot of time and money figuring out exactly what they are and ALWAYS get a 2nd opinion even if it means 2x as much time & money. You can always get more money, you cannot get more life.

sounds like a whole buncha stuff i dont know about. i have delt with axiety issues myself.. I've tried all sorts of methods, been to natural paths, been to therapy.

the only opinion i have when dealing with a problem like this is to try everything under the sun, and only continue doing what seems to be working. there's lots of stuff that COULD be causing the problem that you don't suspect.. god only knows.. it could be stress related brought on by cronic physical pain for all i know.

it's always a good idea to try a more holistic approach. deal with the inerior subjective relm, the physical relm, the social setting, that sort of thing. go to a doctor. find a GOOD therapist (one that costs money) take a vacation...

    just some ideas..

Take her to a doctor immediately. Those are serious symptoms. She may have low blood pressure and may have had a stroke. Do not go to a chiropractor. Chiropractic is magic. It is no different to voodoo or acupuncture or homeopathy.

hey instead of asking a doctor, why not ask random folks on the internets? Maybe we could even prescribe your ailing mother some of our very own remedies and medicines?

I would do what the inuit do and realize she has finally hit that age where she can no longer be part of the tribe and help provide as a gatherer and put her on the ice berg to the big dance in the sky. It's ok. She knows you love her and it's the right thing to do for the tribe so you can go on.

Just kiss her and wish her luck on her journey into the sunset.

Heh...I posted this topic only because I wanted to hear about if other people had witnessed similar things happened before.

I really don't get why would somebody make a joke out of this.

And no I don't actually take in everything people say on the net.

The chiropractor part wasn't my idea...the only thing I did was advising her to go for a full medic checkup and check for other issues...as going to the family doctor and chiropractor obviously don't do anything.

    Just making things clear.

Well man, i'm on my 3rd grade on medical school but by just reading 2 symptons i couldn't do any better then anyone with Wikipedia coudln't. And don't think anyone serious enought and with some knowledge would give some advise on a internet forum (kids, internet is just good for the porn and freelance work). Take her to a really doctor, it can be something, it can be nothing really... medicine is like that.

And god bless us for not having chiropractors here, those are even worst than voodoo and those future telling crazy people as these don't claim to know medicine...

Now I feel like a tool writing this thread...anyways thanks to those who shared their experience and all.

On an important note...I already took her to the doctors for a medic checkup and she's recovering for the time being.

I would also like this thread to be closed.

Hey don't feel bad. Despite what some people said above, it is good that you asked for advice! That's better than just hoping it'll go away!
