everyone's favorites oscillate dramatically between a fairly large stable of groups, rocking out to some one day, others the next. the exercise is to think about it and choose three -even if it is only for today- that are top of the pops for you.
edit that shit so i can hug you with a clear conscience
My most consistently favorite musical fix through the years, bugs the piss out of me that I've never seen them live. Aside from them my tastes tend to wander all over the place.
Awesome lists guys. Alice in Chains was a close 4th for me, I've listened to them for awhile now but after seeing them live a few months ago, I'm listening to them more and more.

My fourth would probably be Joanna Newsom - I've been quite smitten with her lately.

The Book of Right On is such an awesome song. Joanna Newsom is pretty spiffy. Like most people, my top three are always changing, but if I were to pick right now they would probably be:
1. Tom Waits
2. My Morning Jacket (can't stop listening to Wordless Chorus)
3. Radiohead
Other favorites include The Flaming Lips, The White Stripes, Tool, RATM, Primus, any of Les Claypool's million or so side projects, Butthole Surfers, etc.
[edit] Joanna Newsom has some great live videos on youtube that actually have a decent recording quality. Here are a couple I had in my favorites: The Book of Right On, Sawdust and Diamonds. She is such an amazing musician, I never thought I would be so into harp music.

funny thing ,they hardly have anything similar to the sound of the other bands I listed.
