top 5 movies of 07

So, I started thinking of all the awesome movies i've seen this year.... And oh shit, i turns out that everything i'm thinking of was actually LAST year, children of men, the departed, pans labyrinth, etc. So what the hell, what were the good movies in 07 guys?

I'll post my list when i can actually remember what was good that i saw.

Ok i'll go with what i've actually seen this year.

1. 3:10 to Yuma
2. The fountain
3. Knocked Up
4. American Gangster
5. Superbad

I think i've come to the conclusion that i didnt get out and see enough movies this year, no country for old men and before the devil knows you're dead would probablly be up there on that list at the very least if they were actually showing here, and theres a few more i never got around to seeing.

    1. American Gangster (really, really good movie)
    2. 3:10 To Yuma (someone else saw this, woot!)
    3. Rescue Dawn (it's all about the Christian Bale)
    4. Ratatouille (great fun)
    5. Zodiac (very interesting and enjoyable if a bit long)

Kinda regretting that I didn't go and see Superbad or Knocked Up at the cinema, everyone said they were awesome. Also I haven't had a chance to see Stardust or Golden Compass yet, but I doubt they'd be able to get into my top 5 of this year, it's been a great year for good movies... especially Russell Crowe and Christian Bale have done an awesome job!

Don't quite understand how anyone can put Transformers on a top 5 list, it's one of the worst movies I've seen in a while... paper-thin plot and characters, really rubbish dialogue delivered in a really wooden manner, countless misguided failed attempts at humour... the only redeeming features were the eye candy (in the form of big robots and Megan Fox) and they weren't enough to save it.

But I guess everyone's entitled to their own tastes and opinions. smile.gif I can only assume that the people who liked that movie were actually fans of the Transformers toys/cartoons when they were young. I used to watch and enjoy the cartoons but I was never really a huge fan so I guess I just skip the whole nostalgia factor.

I gotta have a at least one mindless action flick in my top 5. Come on now smile.gif They're always good fun. Rescue Dawn was a great movie though, I just saw that yesterday. Very good performances, and serious physical dedication by all of those involved.
Didn't get a chance to see American Gangster, 3:10 to Yuma or Stardust either. Though I'll see them in due time.

Yeah I guess I don't really have enough lighthearted action to outweigh the heavy, harrowing drama and thriller movies on my list! Maybe I should replace Zodiac with Die Hard 4.0 laugh.gif

    1) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
    2) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (i saw it twice smile.gif )
3)Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World's End
4)Naruto: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
    5)Spiderman 3

i think those might be the only movies i saw in theaters this year. Naruto might not count since it was on Cartoon Network but it's my list so tongue.gif.

    1. No Country For Old Men
    2. Ratatouille
    3. The Simpsons Movie
    4. Rescue Dawn
    5.

Considering that I'm foaming at the mouth to see There Will Be Blood and it just split Best Movie with No Country For Old Men with the NYC, LA, Boston, and DC Film Critics Awards I imagine that it'll be in the top 5. So I'm holding off on number 5 for a bit. I still would like to see 3:10 to Yuma, Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, In The Valley of Elah, Gone Baby Gone, Micheal Clayton, and Southland Tales.

I didn't get to see a ton this year but

    No particular order

    1. 3:10 to Yuma
    2. Transformers
    3. Zodiac
    4. The Bourne Ultimatum
    5.

I'm leaving 5 open because there are a few more i want to see.

3:10 to Yuma was awesome. I ended up seeing it with my dad as I have never been to the movies with him and I knew he would really like it since he is into westerns. I was surprised that I would like it so much too.

    1. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
    2. Hot Fuzz
    3. Ratatouille
    4. Juno
    5. Sunshine (the first 3/4)

A lot of you have movies I would never have even thought about putting on a "best of" list. Not that I'm saying mine is that great and all, but dear god Zodiac should have been at least an hour shorter. The Fountain was cool, but only 1 of the stories was any good. And don't even get me started on the big summer blockbusters like Spiderman3 and PotC3. frown.gif

1.Die Hard: Live Free or Die Hard
    2.Rescue Dawn
    3.No Country for Old Men
    4.Planet Terror
5.Going to leave this spot open as I am Legend or the new Aliens vs. Predator may claim the spot.

Honorable Mention: Resident Evil:Extinction only because they actually tried to make it better than the previous entries, even if it still didn't quite live up to what it should be.

    No Order:

    1. 300 (i think the Canadian release was in 2007)
    2. Planet Terror
    3. Ratatouille
    4. Hot Fuzz (Even though I hate seeing a comedy in the theatre...)
    5. Leaving it open because there's a lot of movies that were released that I think will be good but haven't seen yet (3:10 to Yuma and American Gangster come to mind.)

    2. Jesse James
    3. Eastern Promises
    4. American Gangster

I can't think of a fifth, but how come no one even mentioned Eastern Promises? I know Jesse James was basically overlooked by everyone, but I thought Eastern Promises got a lot of attention
  • xxbrightliesxx

i don't think i can manage a top 5 without at least 3 of them being there if only for being "not as bad as they could have been"

the other way is easier. 300 is by far the worst thing i've seen all year, probably for the past few years. Offensively bad.
