Adding subtitles to movies....

Hi all
basically I am in the process of rendering out aload of movies,which ive got to compile and exsport in Aftereffects.
However I then need to add subtitles to the final movies.which will be compressed again into .flv format to play in flash.
A google search has revealed a fair few ways of adding subtitles and a fair few freeware programs which also help out.
Simply my question is do any of you guys have any recommendations on what software to use which will make this task the least painless and quick?.
