I'm trying to subtract the shape of some text from an object in max... so the text is in holes in the mesh... if that explanation makes sense. I have completely forgotten which modifier i can use to do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Jon

Its a compound shape, called Boolean. Geometry tab > Switch Standard Primitives to Compound Shapes > With your object selected click boolean or pro boolean.

Pro Booleans does a slightly better job of not making a mess when you add multiple objects one after another but really both boolean tools are kind of crappy. Good luck, and watch the poly count on your text as it tends to ubber smooth corners by adding a bunch of polys, which can make cutting with booleans a nightmare. Also make sure your objects are closed or the results will be sketchy at best.
