My current mouse is about 7 years old now and dying, so I'm looking at getting a replacement. I'm kind of at a tossup between a vertical mouse and a trackball, but if there is a really nice standard optical (w/ wire) then I'm all for it. Suggestions?

On the left is a Razer Pro|Click, and on the right is a MS Laser Mouse 6000. They're both great.
It's pretty much the one pictured above but black.
I will always go for a Logitech MX510 where possible, they're cheap, solid, perfect weight, size and shape for me. Also the thumb buttons are very well placed, I'm not a fan of the mice which have button4 and button5 on opposite sides.
I personally think those new ones tend to be a little bit uncomfortable on the palm.
Razer Diamondback
Pros: Very precise, on the fly adjustment, very customizable, great wheel scroll.
Cons: My wrist hurt after using it for so long, can some times be too touch in apps and games, feels too light at times.
This was my default mouse since they launched I think for my desktop and gaming until I got the MX510.
Logitech MX510
Pros: Awesome weight and very comfy in my hand. Buttons on side are in an awesome spot. Wheel is fantastic. Great in games and in max, maya and my other apps. Very precise as well.
Cons: None really. Maybe that the sliders on the bottom have started to wear out from being used for so long.
Logitech MX Revolution
Pros: Wireless, Rechargable, Feels awesome in hand, Very comfy, great slider, feels a lot like the MX 510.
Cons: Pricey $99.00 but Best Buy sold it this weekend for $49.00 and thats when I picked it up.
This is my new mouse of choice. I picked one up to use at work.
So thats my feed back.
I would go with the MX Revolution. Just put it in your hand and feel how awesome it is.
But clearly that's just SHIT
Steel Series has a couple of gaming mice releasing at the end of the month called the Ikari. A laser and an optical. They claim to have worked side by side with pro gamers and put 15 months worth of R&D into the mice. I'm really curious to see how they turn out.

Mm, they are driverless. Nice. Sometimes having to use software limits the mouse to specific setups.
ended up going with the MX518, liking it so far. Thumbs up.
Comfy in the hand too. Enjoy your new tool..
If you want a vertical mouse I have a left-hand one I could sell (I switched to right-hand mouse handling last year hence I don't use it anymore). Just let me know.

you switched your mousehand? did you suddenly roll double 20's on Ambidexterity?
That mouse is 15 bucks at Target. Dual Scroll wheel, optical, 5 button. I like them so much I bought a box, and everyone i've let use my computer always comments on how great it is.
