so...i need to import something to maya to export into another format , but maya wont read the smoothing groups of the .obj im exporting from max ( yes i check the export smoothing groups box ) so anyone know a way ( besides manually detaching each face :P ) ?

Also you might try this OBJ exporter.

It wouldn't take much time to just harden the edges by hand in Maya.
