so i bought a ps2 at ebay, it plays all cool ntsc games that i want except it has a problem : it plays black n white on my tv. I heard it was a problem with the tv, that i need to get an ntsc to pal converter or something :S agh, i suck at electronics, any suggestions ? Get a mac or a new TV no thanks ( im short on cash now lol )

as for a convertor,,,, hmm.... never heard of those, others may help u there

but for ur next TV purchase, u should make sure its multi=voltage [in case], and multi system...... screw 'big brand names'.... these two things matter... if u ask me

if your tv can handle 60hz then it'll work fine, if not, you either have to buy one of the crazy ass expensive converters or you're fucked.

you would only get this problem if you are using the RF connector. Try s-video or scart

Does the PS2 have a mod chip?
I know that some early chips would allow you to play NTSC games but at the cost of colour, some would appear monochromatic and some would even appear in just 16 colours.
I know this may not be the case, and it could in fact be your television. Have you tried the PS2 on another TV?

Are you using an rgb cable instead of just a regular scart?, that's important.

I know that my TV plays any imported games in black and white with the cables I got straight out the box. It turned out that the scart cables straight otu the box didn't have every pin in the end connector for some reason - buying a scart cable with all the pins in the scart connector sorted this problem out every time. Cheap too!

Exactly, composite vs RGB, since regular scarts don't do 60hz even if the tv does it, so side effects are black and white,

get an rgb scart cable.

ok,i bought a convertor and am awaiting for it to arrive, fuck this ill even buy a new tv that i can also connect to laptop...ill keep you guys updated. The Ps2 has a modchip ( matrix something infinity blablabla that i used to be able to play the pal games i bought - yes bought all my games are legit )
