Any Dreamcast owners dug their DC out of storage..

plugged it in, pushed Power... and nothing happened? I just experienced this, which is a particular bummer cause I just got my copy of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure off of Ebay. It's been kept in a dry cabinet for probably a few years, so I can't imagine it having rusted up on the inside. Before I go about unscrewing it and poking around at the insides to see if anything's gone bad, anyone got any suggestions?

That's too bad. I never had a Dreamcast but I'd suspect the power cord first. Maybe check it out with a multimeter?

You're on your own with this one. SEGA no longer does repair work on it. They had up until about the beginning of 2007 but then closed down all operations for repair work on Dreamcast hardware. Sucks too because about 4-6 new games still come out for it a year in Japan. Mine still runs just fine and it was a launch unit. Sorry to hear your system is dead.

ok, so I asked, he said he just opened it and used an air duster and a little towel to remove all the dust and it worked, his stayed in a dry place for a year and a half, like yours, so maybe that will work for you too ?

Thanks vahl, I'll give it a once-over with our air-compressor and see what that does for me. TK, yah it's a bummer that SEGA finally cut their ties with the system, but it's no suprise. Pliang, I've got no issues with ripping it apart myself (done enough console / pc modding), but seeing as, like TK said, SEGA's cut their ties, and I've only got the one DC, wanted to ask around first.

You're probably already aware, but there are actually brand new, never-opened Dreamcasts on eBay, for relatively low prices. I saw some up there for about $50 CDN. If absolutely nothing else works, then it's probably worth a shot.

A pristine console for the price of an average new PC game is pretty damn good, I think.

Bummer dude. I still have my DC sitting in the bottom of a closet somewhere. Last time I checked it worked fine. You're more than welcome to it If you can't find a solution. I was thinking about how to get rid of it a while ago....

I bought mine on 9/9/99 (with my own money... I was only 14yo at the time, so it was kind of a bit deal to me. It was my first console that was all mine).

My DC didnt even make it into storage before quitting on me! It turns on and runs, but I get a disc read error no matter what I do. My saturn and genesis have outlived it by 4 maybe 5 years

Awwww, I love my old Dreamcast. Still the best console to make the guts of a MAME cabinet. It is my personal belief that Sega should do the world a favor and release the technical specs of the Dreamcast for public use. The Dreamcast would probably make a kick-ass open-source console. And it would be such a shame for it to die forever just because Sega gave up. There are enough fans of the system that they could keep it alive on hobbyist enthusiasm alone. Granted, it wouldn't be alive in a commercial sense, but then that was already a given.

Bugger... pulled it apart and couldn't find anything to suggest "danger will robinson". None of the boards looked corroded or rotated, all the contacts appeared clean. I've dealt with electronics that have sat around in the past and seen some pretty nasty chemical build-up, but didn't see that anywhere on this guy. Put it back together and still nothing.... Daz, I'll pm yah about your DC.

Have you checked does the console actually get any juice? Maybe the cord is broken or some wire loose somewhere?
