Portfolio

I need to start looking for a job. So I put together this quick wordpress site per the sticky in GD. It's all pretty simple..a couple more pairs of eyes looking it over would be helpful....I think my main concern is the lack of focus..everyone seems to be taking up mantles like envrio artist, or character, or prop...and I am just kind of all over the place...anyway thanks for looking

So. It's all about presentation, the package. I don't know more about doing a doing a demo reel than anybody, but hey a lot of it boils down to logical reasoning. smile.gif

I see your stuff spread out on your page, but maybe you could also have a demo movie thing going on. So people would just press play and see your stuff. I'm just thinking about preventing potential employers having to browse through your stuff to look at it, "click-click-click". Like having to search for it. Hehe, I must sound extremely lazy right now. On the other side think of the employer who is drowning in demo reels.

When it comes to your actual stuff, it's cool. I like the turtle, can't really give you a constructive critic on your stuff because I'm still fresh at this.

So make it pop, hehe. wink.gif

Works fine I think. Don't mind the lack of focus, shows you're well rounded. You could probably show a few more pieces.

Dazzle , having your stuff spread out on a page is the best way. easy to view , no bullshit flash stuff or things that take forever to load.
    nice stuff btw low odor

My only comment would be that your thumbnails are not actually thumbails... you've just scaled the images down in the html.. which means on a slow web day people will have to wait for several megs of jpgs to load instead of a few kilobtyes. I'd scale the pictures down in ps or something and make some real thumnails.

    the work looks nice though.

I dont think you should even have thumbnails, I don't like having to click on them I want everything to load at once then I can just scroll down.

I agree with Frankie, the Thumbnail thing just takes up employer's time. But seriously, your work is awesome, put up some more work, and I'm sure you got it. Also, think you could PM with how you thought Art Institute was, I was thinking about going, and I just wanted some feedback on it.

i think it would help to have more value contrast in your models. the turtle, for example.. the whole shot is very flat and valueless. it's difficult to decern what's going on and there are no definate points of interest. your stuff seems really nice and sharp and tight, but it seems like you're hiding it.. are you?

Your work is alright, but you need at least one piece to really make someone looking go "cool!" Right now your best piece is probably the turtle (though IMO the geo can be better), the rest are not bad by any stretch but nor do they really speak. I would work on at least one sweet piece, especially given the small amount of work you are showing (which means you are able to be selective, which is good, but it also means these are your best and they aren't really good enough). It will be worth it to invest that few weeks from the start even if you are anxious to send out your folio, and really put forward your best work.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

Austin: I would save your Money. I met alot of friends at AIP...and I had a hella good time in Pittsburgh. But about 70% of my classes were worthless.

John: Thanks for the input. I'm not sure what you mean by hiding though. There is a bloom filter on most of the shots, but other than that they are all straight from the max viewport.

Prof420: Thanks...any imput on the turtle geo would be appreciated...I had 5k to work with so I was pretty liberal with the loops. I've got about 3 more wips in pipeline hopefully one of them will land in the good enough category lol.

    it smells funny laugh.gif

ok well the first thing i thought was that, overall, the color scheme or the atmosphere of all pieces is pretty much the same. kinda mellow.. brownish... dreamy look. if i don't need this style -- what else can you do?
bring me pieces from different worlds, show me multifaceted variety, implement more colors, make each more unique.

As I have experienced its what you can do best. If you are looking to start at a small company than being able to do different things at once is good. As for starting at a big company its better to stick to one thing that your good at. My advice would be stick to what you are best at if you don't know just ask.
