maya 8.5: facing uv projection

you know in max, in the material properties you can set the material to ignore uvs and just display as if the image was covering the screen and the object acts as a mask to display bits of the image? so the texture is flat and does not warp around the object but the object just shows part of the flat texture.

I'm trying to do something similar in maya without much success. The projection node sort of does it if I set it to the current camera- but only in renders, and I want it to work in the viewport..

any ideas maya gurus?

Parent the Place3DTexture node to your camera (it should be visible in the viewport as a box with a grid on one side after you create projection, and also it will show up in outliner), then the texture projection should correctly update in viewport as you move the camera. Beware, your framerate will drop significantly though.

I hope this works the way you expect it smile.gif
