I was inspired by Jesse's thread a while back to have a go at doing some of my own work with Sculpey.

My first attempt complete that I made without any proper tools, complete with slightly whack proportions and crappy, patchy ink wash. Also dust.

Its not terribly refined because I wasn't entirely sure that the entire thing wasn't going to explode or crack into pieces.

lookin good. Quick question for you on your process. Do you throw enough sculpey around the face area so that you can just start diggin in with your tools, or do you get the general head shape then build the forms up? I'm kind of struggling with my technique of building up. I don't think I'm waiting long enough to give the sculpey time to get a little more firm or something. Perhaps I need to buy some of the Firm sculpey and try it out. Anyway, it's cool to see some sculpey stuff on here. keep us posted and I hope I didn't hijack your thread.

Seantree, Its a little of both really. I usually block in the basic shape and then go backwards and forwards adding and subtracting clay until I get something that looks nice.

cool. I've been usin blobs of clay to practice techniques. I can see where it needs to be a combo of both now. I'm hopin to get some images of my piece up tomorrow.

This guy is the mascot (kinda) for the studio that I worked at until recently.

I made a few mistakes with this guy resulting in a somewhat crude sculpt, but overall I'm reasonably happy.
I had planned to paint on a green oxidized patina to make it look like weathered bronze, but in the end I wimped out and left it at the simple metal. I kinda lost some of the colour detail out of the paint when I was photographing. There's more variation to it than there initially appears.

Anyway, onward and upward eh.
