I'm a bit surprised there was no mention of the original BC storyline in that interview. For those who don't know it, courtesy of Wikipedia:

Personally I think it might have been a better idea to start with that basic story and revamp it from there, rather than lay the foundations of the remake on the sanitized version. They mention the need to eliminate/update the generic good guy/bad guy names and characters from the original, but they keep the overall generic plot and hero with a troubled past?
I'll reserve final judgement on the main character until I've seen more of the game, but at face value he's a bit too poxy-gears-of-war-knockoff looking to me.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing the final product.

Agreed with Rhinokey about the backstory though, it does seem like the done thing at the moment to have the player as a gritty anti-hero. Seems a bit cookie-cutter in terms of plot, hopefully the gameplay and visuals will make up for that (if it stays that way).
