I was just wondering if anyone can give me a point in the right direction as to how to use texture splatting. I am asking as a project I am involved in needs to texture large areas and we obviously cannot do this in just an unwrapped texture. I have heard that you can use vertex colours in Max to create the channels or something... I don't know, thats why I am asking you guys! Any info you have on this technique would be tremendous. I did a search of the forum (though sometimes this yields poor results and seems to miss key threads), but couldn't find anything about it anyway.
Thanks guys!

Unfortunately Max doesn't display multiple UVs in the viewport natively. We don't use vertex color here, we use bitmap masks, so I never looked into it further. There might be a DX shader out there that gives you RT feedback though.
edit... looks like RealityEngine's wiki is still live. They show one technique for using bitmaps to blend your tiles.
