I have schematics for 18 levels for a side scrolling platformer that I want to block out collision meshes for, but since I'm not building for a specific engine yet, will I be able to create the meshes in a 3D app (3ds max or Silo) and drop them into the engine later on for gameplay prototyping? Or are there specific tools or formats I should be using for this kind of thing?
Hoping for replies other than "It depends..." although maybe that's being too optimistic.

Like I mentioned, I'm laying out levels for a 3D side scroller, so it's nothing too complex and everything is grid based. I'm tracing paths over the levels in Photoshop and exporting them out as .ai to drop into max. Boring menial work, hooha. Just getting it out of the way so I can move on to the fun stuff.
But I'll have a fiddle around with Game Level Builder, the tools to verify convex meshes might come in handy.
Crazy Butcher- does Luxinia work with triangle meshes for collision?
