anybody here spent any time coloring your models in zbrush? I know zbrush has some simple auto uv tools, and i'm wondering if it's worth while to do a colormap in the app. this way you could bake out a simple color map with your normal map, yes?

thoughts?

You can use polypaint, and then either convert the polygon colors from your high rez mesh to a bitmap using an existing UV set, or just use the AUV tiles to generate the color map. From here you can export both the mesh and the AUV colormap to your 3d app and bake it down to a better UV layout on your game rez mesh. I've done it in XSI, I assume it's just as possible in Max or Maya etc.
