I dont know this to my shame! I had a max file corrupt and had to import it back in from unreal, unfortunatly its triangulated! Is ther any way of selecting two tris in max and forcing them to become a quad? Should be aesy right?
you should be able to just click on the edge and delete it, or look for some form of edge remove. I know you can do this in modo and i'm sure theres a simple way in max.
If your mesh is an editable poly object, go to your edge sub object and select the edge you want "removed" and then click "remove". It's in the Edge Sub object in the edit edges menu. If it's an editable mesh object, then go to the Edge sub object and, grab the edge you want and look for the "invisible" function.
I set CTRL-E to remove since it's over on the left side of the keyboard where my hand always is anyway. Easier than hitting Backspace or clicking the "Remove" button all the time.
Hey Per128, did you manage to get Visualboo's Quadrangulate script to work on MAX 9? I can't seem to be able to get it to work. Any help to get it to work would be greatly appreciated
Also, I found this method, and it works for all version of MAX :
So there is no way to do this by default then? I'm in max8 importing 3ds files yields triangulated meses it's not an option to delete these edges by hand. I would like a quadrangulate button if possible, also I don't know how to use max scripts yet am new to the program.
If it's a particularly complicated mesh and you can't install the plugin Per mentioned, try wings3d's quadify, it works pretty well. There's a navigation controls preset to match max's in the preferences, btw.

Control + Backspace to remove the edge and the verts that make up the edge.
