[/ QUOTE ]Eye catching titles for a pornographic game aren't exactly going to be difficult. Call it "Sex!" or "Boobs!" and you'd get all the attention of your demographic that you could hope for.
If you all do a game in this style I would love to help. I've played a bunch of hentai games and even modded Sexy Beach 3. Theres very little depth or game play in these games. Lets make a game that has. The most fun I had playing one of these is in Biko 3 where you can hide in a trash can while stocking the girls. Yes, it is a game where you stock chicks hahaha. Its game play is similar to metal gear.
With every post in this thread, the likelihood of more female polycounters shrinks.
Though in all fairness, with it being polycount there really should be some freakish monster with one giant mutated right arm, half a face growing out of it's torso, and robotic legs, oh and a greentooth tatoo, just so people know polycount made this game.
actually, we need to get the sophisticated, non-horny times to buy our game too. that's how we get real revenues, is it not? but otherwise, u do have a point.
That said, guys, this will never happen... I don't know why not.. but I mean, it stands to reason that if it was possible to create something like it, then why doesn't EVERY game out there feature exposed voluptuous vixens?
[/ QUOTE ]
Someone sent me a blog link explaining this crazy phenomenon once... probably have the link logged somewhere.
Actually x rated games probably just wouldn't be carried by the major retailers, so putting tons of cash into a decent porn game wouldn't pay off within the 7-17 demographic.
And since the majority of people online seem to fit right into that demographic if we are to judge based on the Asshat Scale, decent sales might be hard to come by.
And advertising would also be rather more difficult. Honestly, where would someone like me for example, see ads for a hardcore porn game? The major review sites might not cover it, and the general ads you see when cruising game and tech related sites would probably be out of the question. Paying for a magazine ad would be useless because what gamer would actually pay for a porno mag when there's free porn online by the metric fuckton? The only real way to advertise would be on porn sites, but with the huge amount of those you'll only reach a fraction of people. You'd need to advertise on the viral principle, and hope that you can get enough steam with your announcements to get people to find out on their own and tell their friends about this awesome game where you can steal girl's panties and do naughty things with their mouths.
But then again, it might work, and it just hasn't been tried because it seems like winning your money back would be very difficult.
They dip their hands into anything porn related. So unless you really feel comfotable dealing with them, there's really no chance they will 'allow' a game to be made.
Sounds farfetched, but trust me, we've looked into it and things began getting a little be scary...
[ QUOTE ]
Void point. When was the last time you saw ANY sufficiently hardcore porn carried by major retailers? It's still a gazillion dollar industry (4.2 gazillion to be accurate). Besides, it's a game, distribute it online and don't let a published keep most of the money.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dunno how it is where you live, but back in the SF bay area the only porn I ever saw was on store shelves (Tower records for example), with some sort of retarded plastic cover to keep kids from seeing the naughty stuff underneath.
[ QUOTE ]
What's the 7-17 demographic? I assumed you meant age, but then that doesn't make much sense
[/ QUOTE ]
Makes a crapload of sense. Kids play the most computer games. Go online and ask people in random servers how old they are and chances are they will be a minor. Minors are pretty damn important to the games industry, or are you gonna dispute that?
[ QUOTE ]
Void point. As in: Are you smoking? When was the last time you went online for 5 minutes and was NOT exposed to porn ads of some kind?
[/ QUOTE ]
"Of some kind"... I've probably seen more different porn ads than I have porn sites, but not everyone visits the same sites, and you'd have to shell out serious cash to get decent coverage on numerous sites while making a statement with the ad that won't simply be read by the pornhound as "oh, some crap ad for some crap hentai game, whatever".
[ QUOTE ]
You'd not be selling to "gamers", after all the selling point of the title wouldn't be innovative gameplay. You'd be selling to exactly those people who are jaded by the masses of free porn and want something new.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are already sex games for those people. I find it unlikely that you will drag in top dollar by coralling random schmucks to play your game. What, you're going to make an awesome game with awesome graphics and try to sell it to someone who has an onboard graphics card and uses the computer to look for porn and nothing else?
The horny adult gamer is the perfect target, this thread being pretty compelling evidence.
[ QUOTE ]
If anything, it shouldn't be related to money. Porn = money no matter which form it comes in. Companies get rich selling superlowrez background images of scantily clad girls for cell phones. Are you aware of the relatively huge market for "nude mods" for poser? And about the free porn thing, most of us know how to get it, but we're not in the majority. Most people (your dads) look for porn online by typing "sex" or "free ponr" into google.
It wouldn't even have to be porn per se, as long as it's sexy. Sex sells like mad, regardless of medium. Nobody can argue with that. The game industry is just slow to pick up on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
It might be successful, but just because it has sex-appeal doesn't mean it will be a hit. BMX XXX flopped if I remember correctly, so titties aren't the incredible money makers you say they are.
If you throw down serious cash to develop an honestly good porn game, with top notch graphics, you will have to sell it at $50 just like every normal game. That automatically puts you in a different niche than all the super cheapo handy pics and shitty poser models, so you can't depend on the same sales. Major retailers won't sell your game, and in all likelyhood you will get press about your naughty naughty game and how Walmart doesn't want to sell it on the news. BMX XXX suffered from that type of coverage, and your game could suffer as well. You're basically going to get cut down to online distribution and community advertising of the "hey dude, did you hear about the Metal Dick Solid game. It's got tits in it!" nature. You'll be depending on people's curiosity and horniness for sales.
Yeah, you could make a crapload of money and revolutionize porn. Or you could crash and burn and nobody serious will touch you or your company ever again.
I'd say it's much safer to stick to what you know if you're a pornographer, and much more lucrative to stay out of the adult market if you're a game maker.
But it will happen. Just needs another 5-10 years probably.

I draw boobs in all my Disney comics and sell them on ebay. I bought an island.

You could always take the Sorano approach and get some black skivvy wearing, chardonnay drinking types to champion it as art. After all, they did it with Super Happy Colombine Massacre Fun or whatever the hell that crap was, so this shouldn't be too difficult. After that you'll have a people who'll kick up a huge stink when the censors try to step in creating loads of free advertising.
A few well thought out words in the right places and we'll all be able to kick back and snort cocain off minors or whatever it is rich people do.
[ QUOTE ]
yeah, dfacto, makes a "crapload of sense" that you'd try to sell sex games to kids who aren't able to legally purchase them. Good luck to you and Indian_boy selling sex games to 7 year olds, you marketing geniuses
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I'd sell normal games to 7-17 year olds. With sex games you would lose that market and would therefore need to depend on raking in that extra cash from the adult market, making your job much more difficult.
[ QUOTE ]
Again I don't see your point. Me and Indian_boy are talking about your chance of getting exposed to porn ads online, which anyone should know is pretty much inevitable, especially for what would be the target demographic. Then you come along talking about general difficulties of marketing.. which apply to the selling of ANY product, regardless of category. So, yeah, what's your point?
[/ QUOTE ]
There are lots of porn ads, but most of them are small, crappy, vague, and are nowhere near universally visible. You want to advertise online, fine, but on which sites are you going to do it in order to get a decent amount of views by the people you think are most likely to buy the game? There's no online porn center that every pervert who wants to play sex games goes to, so you'd have to hit up a few sites that have more hits and hope the viewers were people who give a flying fuck about sex games in the first place.
[ QUOTE ]
The same can be said about ANY product you might want to sell. There are already books, there are already computer games, there are already movies, etc, etc. It's GOOD that there's already similar products, that is basic marketing logic. It's not like you want to try to create an all-new market, now THAT is difficult.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure there's a market, but you are basically talking about a multi-million dollar revolution in the market. Think that's a piece of cake?
[ QUOTE ]
Now you say adult, earlier you said 7-17, which is it? Anyway, if I was going to sell interactive porn I'd sure as hell make sure the target demographic was as wide as absolutely possible.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you read what I posted you'd have realized I was talking about a sex gaming excluding that lucrative 7-17 market. I wasn't talking about selling to kids. But yeah, wide markets are good, and if mom and dad want to buy my sex game for their kids I wouldn't complain.
[ QUOTE ]
Great conclusion you came to there based wholly on the success of one game, see you've done your research. Anyway, I have news for you: BMX XXX had tits, but was not sexy in the least. It was a crap game with crap sexiness, who's going to buy that? Who were they targeting it at?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was not making a blanket statement, but was using BMX XXX to crush your theory that tits will automatically generate sales. They won't. Cheap poser models and bad 3d wallpaper may sell decently because they cost nothing, but a game is another matter.
[ QUOTE ]
Sorry to say it, but again I'm not sure what your point is. Few products sell themselves. You need a marketing plan, you need someone with a marketing background who is used to dealing with issues such as what you describe. That's just another part of business, no big deal.
[/ QUOTE ]
I remember you beign the one who talked as if tits would be all the marketing you need?

I know you're arguing for kicks, but your latest arguments make it out to be some surefire success, but the fact is that the top notch porn game proposed could easily be a massive failure, even if you get excellent marketing going.
Case in point, Sogna and the viper series. Sogna shit is all over the net, and there's no better advertising than a load of horny guys getting to see your sex gifs. But Sogna is dead and gone anyways.

I gotta see what I can salvage from her and put it on the new mesh.
I'm lucky my gf helps me find this stuff...
plus... she was the reference for that older model I talked about... at least... certain parts of her... (hawt)
We should name it "Vagina Dentata"
This is the base texture I was working on when making my Ferril re-design from BloodRayne 2.
Her proportions were altered to match the original model, so she's much more of a 'comic book vixen'.
She has rushed weighting and her skin is very monocromatic because she was going to get her skin tinted blue.
**NSFW** obviously

The new model is real female proportions very similar to EQ's.

The game I have envisioned would be like DoAX2, Sexy Beach, or Rumble Roses.
Basically that style of Japanese art. Not straight up anime and not straight up western either.
Shunya Yamashita's artwork is a great example.
