Baking lights onto pre-existing texture/uvunwrap?

I have a model that I am working on for Unreal2k4 and so far everything has been going according to plan. However, I have recently discovered how blown out my texture looks when I get in game with the character. The texture lacks varying values so the colors and textures have no depth. Is there a way I can sort of 'cheat' and use lights in Maya to bake some shadows onto the pre-existing texture map/UVunwrap and save that information onto the map?
