Hey all here is a character I did from Valkyrie Profile. It was for a contest over at GamingArtist.com
Needless to say I didn't finish on time, but I was pretty happy with what I managed to finish. Please give me some crits particularly on the texture work. It's all hand painted aside from an AO bake and a filter or two here and there. Thanks for looking. Here goes...

Try and focus your values to draw attention to areas of importance. Try to add shape where you can. And try to limit color choices...
Here's a paintover of the lower body:
If you squint, a lot of the lower leg should go away and turn really dark. Notice how the brightest values are on the armor pieces around his waist. I thought that the armor was what made this guy look cool.... so I tried to emphasize it's importance. Even with mostly middle/dark values the red is still very saturated and pops out against the very dark colors of everything else.
but, yeah, this colour scheme is little bit dim
As far as adding shape, I totally agree. Looking at your paint over, I could have really rounded out the slats on the skirt armor. I look at parts like the sword handle and feel like I should have given it another pass completely!
