Is anyone coming out with a game emulating a DJ? Like Guitar Heroes, it would comes with a toyish mixing platter. It's interface you see on the screen the crowd with your GUI incorporated, and how well you mix the samples and follow the beats per second, the crowd responds?

I finally saw Guitar Heroes, and thought of this immediately for people who arent into such.

this game exists, but as far as i know, nowhere outside of Japanese arcades. but then, just about every sort of weird game you can think of exists in Japanese game centers. a DJ mixing type game, a drumming game with full kit, keyboardist game, so on and so forth... have you ever wanted to experience the thrill of driving a tokyo commuter train? they've got that one too! smile.gif

Dunno if there was ever a home version of this, but I played the hell out of it in the arcades, and there was some crazy-good guys I've seen playing it before.

@gauss: do you by chance watch 'when games attack' on G4 tech or something? cuz i saw that train simulation just yesterday lol.

but yeah, the japs come up with some of the craziest games [some of the coolest too! devil may cry ftw!]

but if u just like rythm games, i love passing time with FFR:

Holy! Hiroshi Watanabe was a contributor on Beatmania. I really like his stuff! Too bad we cant get a western version of this. frown.gif Though maybe with a bit more freedom in samples (so you pre-choose which samples you want versus having to follow a pre-written script).

    Thanks for the link Gauss!

Oxy.. I believe there was a homebrew version of the game that allowed you to create custom setups... not entirely certain though, you'd have to dig around.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it made an appearance some time soon. I'd probably pick it up considering I used to play Beatmania a fair bit at the arcade.

Check out dance eJay! I think the first one came out with a table you could hook your mouse to i norder to scratch. It's no genuine game but it was fun to play with back in the day. Seems like it's version 7 now...

Collecting a ton of vinyl is kind of part of the fun of DJing. I used to (hard times forced a sell of the tables and mixer...still have my records) spin drum and bass and would love a game like that...although the reality of what a DJ does for typical dance music is not that exciting. Now if it were turntablist, DJ Shadow, Kid Koala, beat juggling and scratching type stuff it would be pretty cool, but I don't think that music has as broad an appeal as straight dance music does.

Rhino: Stanton actually makes a thing called Final Scratch that reads the time code off a special vinyl platter and uses that to control MP3s played off a laptop

I dont know, seems enough of us responding that a market may exist. At this point though, I was saying a toy scratcher and a game with the audience. In example, you start doing well, the CG people get out there glow sticks. And like I said, you choose the samples versus having to follow a predefined script to mimick a specific mix.

One of the reasons Guitar Hero got boring fast for me. You only saw the CG avatars and they really just responded to how well you did with predefined animation cycles, and the music played was canned at best.

Somewhat OT, but if we are mentioning related programs, this is one for Vjs. The guys from Coldcut were involved in the making of it.

I saw a video demo of a DJ game on the PSP mixing various beats (gametrailers?). Forgot what it was called tho.
