Threewave Software is looking for a seeking sharp, ambitious, visionary Lead Game Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least 4-6+ years experience in game design. The Lead Game Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining the gameplay vision in support of the overall product vision.
Core Responsibilities:
Work with Producer and other Leads to drive the teams understanding of the projects vision.
Responsible for overseeing, mentoring and managing all design staff, scheduling in conjunction with the Producer to meet the demands of milestones.
Development of working and final design documentation, including but not limited to mechanics, systems, freeplay and mission summaries.
Supervise a team of designers through design and implementation.
Contribute, by bringing new ideas to the table in regards to every facet of the game; mechanics, story, missions, and more.
Coordinate with Leads to ensure that design documentation and implementation are realistic and remain on schedule; participate in regular, hands-on interaction with Producer and Software Engineers to ensure that the concepts and content of assigned games meet design requirements.
Lead an assigned design team in the development of product lines and product line concepts.
Ensure that prototypes are developed.
Lead assigned design team to define the creative vision, technical specifications, fun factor and product content for assigned products.
Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with inside and outside creative resources.
Set goals and objectives for team members and act as a visionary, mentor and coach.
The ability to provide scripting support for game missions, freeplay or modules (including revisions and bug fixing) if necessary.
Education & Experience:
Various levels of education will be considered coupled with a minimum of 3-5 years design experience in the video game industry.
A degree is preferred for all international candidates.
Required:
Development of design documentation for mechanics, systems, and freeplay and mission summaries
Supervise a small team of designers through design and implementation ensuring correct implementation of virtually every aspect of the players gameplay experience.
Bring new ideas to the table in regards to every facet of the game; mechanics, story, missions, and more.
Coordination with other Leads to ensure that design documentation and implementation remain on schedule.
Scripting for game missions, freeplay, or modules (including revisions and bug fixing).
Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
Proven leadership and mentorship abilities; able to focus and work without micro-managing design team.
Experience with at least one of the following: Unreal 3 Engine, Source Engine, Radiant
Ability to design within existing game design and fiction to create new systems, missions, and freeplay.
Passion for and broad knowledge of various genres & games on different platforms, with an ability to critically analyze them.
Exhibit good comprehension of gameplay values and spatial reasoning.
Absorption and continuous learning of all fields related to level design, staying in tune with trends and products emerging in the gaming marketplace.
Teamwork - ability to work in and lead teams of individuals from a variety of functional areas.
Mentorship - share knowledge of company/project technology to create a framework where others can contribute ideas and processes.
Preferences:
Next generation console game development experience Xbox 360, PS3
Cross platform development experience
Personal/hobby game projects
One or more shipped titles as a Lead Designer considered an asset
Understanding of basic programming or scripting languages (LUA, Perl, JavaScript, etc) a plus
Preferred candidates will have produced finished and playable levels with id or Valve technology.
Experience using Perforce
