after a little stalling and a very busy last 10 days I think I'm going to go ahead and try to enter this challenge.
Not much done yet, just a super quick scribble. Going to diddle around with it a bit in 3d and try to get it looking less jet-like then go back to flesh out a much more solid concept.

got some progress with the lowpoly. Still have 209 tri's left to play with though and I'm not sure what to do with 'em. Any ideas?

I'd certainly give some more lovin to the base that connects the wings and the cockpit. The concept feels much sleeker in excecution in how fluid it feels in smoothing throughout the shape. Rounding the edges that connects the wings as well as where it connects to the cockpit so that they feel more attached would certainly help represent that.
Also, while it's hard to tell at some angles from seeing only screen grabs, make sure you're not using extra pollies where there is no definition. From the looks of it, the last loops on the wings' intakes aren't working towards that too critically.
I'll always be an advocate of looking at what pollies you can take out before thinking about where you could add!
Best of luck!
Did a little work on a high poly, but I guess I'll be going back and doing some re-thinking on those wings and the main body section. I really wanted to get to the texturing (the best part of course), but I see what you mean Kovac, so I'll try and work on that first. I'm not totally in love with the high poly's progress anyway...
The vent flaps could go, but then I'd be right back where I started with a bunch left over.
As far as stripping those extra five I'd go for welding something with any of these
Also, inside past the jet's vents could always get deleted if there any or at least welded down as well.
Great improvement so far!
I'm still not sure if that's even the right way to do those, the outside two I want to make more like "light trails" almost with some alpha work to have a nice fade-out on the ends.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated
Started playing with the texture:
My normal map came out kind of ugly though, so I'm going to have to play with that some more too.
