hey guys, just wanted to get to know the people better with another one of my random general discussion posts.
what type of music do you guys listen to as you work? i dunno why i wanna know... like i said, random question
anyways... i listen to hip-hop, though, of late, its become more techno [david guetta, joachim garraud etc. etc.]. i guess the beats get me more 'pumped' to work in a sense.

Metal, mostly. Also some classical/orchestral as well as other random shit thrown in here and there. Typically nothing with distracting lyrics or anything.
A3, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, Chemical Brothers, Conjure One, CCR, Crystal Method, Delirium, Front Line Assembly, Gary Numan, GoldFrapp, Harry Gregson-Williams, KMFDM, Korn, Massive Attack, NIN, Primus, Rob Zombie, Royksopp, Theivery Corporation, 16Volt and much much more...
But lately I've been listening to the Smashing Pumpkins, The Knife and Run Level Zero.
The new Beastie Boys album, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Sonic Youth, People Under The Stairs, Buck 65, Old school/instrumental hip-hop and Dj stuff, U.N.K.L.E and Metal...sometimes.
Currently I'm in a real mosh mood, so pumping Unearth, The Acacia Strain, xWish for Wingsx.

Also got a few stations that I flick between on Pandora (Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Tool, The Dear Hunter) to find new bands I might like.
http://www.last.fm/user/moppius <- that's a little out of date since I forgot to install the Winamp plugin when I rebuilt my computer last month. Also, I need to find a way of getting the tracks I play on my iPod onto last.fm, since mostly that's what I listen to at work.
Smashing Pumpkins, Verve, My Chemical Romance, Keane, Hed Kandi, Game OSTs, radiohead, some jazz and classical, more game OSTs..
What I listen is mostly metal(Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Symphony X, Metallica(old stuff of theirs) etc.), movie/anime/game soundtracks(Spirited Away, God of War(awesome!), Gran Turismo, MGS series, Metal Slug series), some smooth jazz(Acoustic Alchemy), some fusion(Liquid Tension Experiment, Gordian Knot, Quartet Muartet) and some classical stuff.
JesseMoody: Good to see someone else mention Anthrax. It's a band that it seems no one ever knows.
When I first started in the industry, I listened to music non-stop. Then... I kinda just got burned out with my collection and the current trends.
So now I just play dvds for ambient sound.

Wow. First time I've ever heard of anybody mention that band in the real world. My friend got me hooked on them in '98 because his brother was in the band.
As for me - Mostly downtempo and more ambient stuff these days. UNKLE, Apparat, DNTEL, Tristeza, Boards of Canada, Explosions in the Sky, Yume Bitsu, and the album that I currently can NOT stop listening to: Bodi Bill.
that is only a small sampling of what all that I actually listen to. As most of the people who know me can tell you, I am a bit of a music fan.
A friend of mine actually refered to me as a "music whore" at one point. ;D
heavy: Slayer, Daath, Cradle of Filth, Behemoth, pantera, meshuggah (though they are a little *too* much sometimes), Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Nile, pigdestroyer, Origin, stuck mojo, system of a down,... etc etc etc etc, lots to list.
Chill: deftones, bjork, amorphis, apex theory, alice, GnR, Oysterhead, Teamsleep, type-o etc etc..
classical: Tchaikovsky, Bach (mostly sonatas & violin solos), Brahms, Bruch, mostly violin and brass stuff for me. horns will melt your brain, so good.
anything from Dillinger Escape Plan & All That Remains to Barenaked Ladies & Billy Joel.
lots of stuff.

edit: should mention they are both rock/metal genre
check them both out
So far my favorites have been A Song of Ice and Fire by GRRM, the Harry Potter series, and the John Corry detective novels. I've also listened to some other series like A Saga of Seven Suns & A Wheel of Time (though I admit I haven't finished that one yet).
Any other long series that are good (with a good reader)?
Yann tiersen, Manu chao.
two bands I feel i need to promote because of their fucking awesomeness that I never hear people mention are:

I tried listening to Dredg a few years ago, but I just couldn't get into them. I think mainly because it took me so long to actually find anything and when I finally did, it wasn't actually worth the effort. Might give it another go though.
Currently listening to Internal Affairs.
