It will probably get thrown out, but the fact that it made it this far is a "travesty of justice". The prosecution side should be required to pay for all the legal fees of the defendants.
This incident should have been completely resolved within the school between the parents and school administrators. A detention and a letter of apology would have been perfectly enough punishment for the kids. Instead they are pulled out of school for weeks and threatened with jail time.
A loud and extended unintelligible scream is the only response appropriate to the prosecution side.
Wow, after reading the police reports, it really becomes more than just goofing off. Spanking is one thing, I mean hell, we used to 'goose' the girls when I was in elementary school, but cupping their breasts and dry humping them? It almost sounded as if these kids aren't too far off from raping the girl.
Now, I'm sure it isn't THAT bad (rape wise), but they definitely deserve some sort of punishment. Arresting them I think was overboard. They should only have had the police there to scare them and help understand the severity, then just suspend them for a bit.
I honestly hope they aren't convicted, even with a 'time served' sentence. If they are, they'll be placed on a sex offenders list and have this on a permanent record. Seems a bit extreme to me.
I dont have a problem with the police being involved. Its a pretty good scare tactic for the kids. However, now they've gone so overboard with charges being pressed and all that the kids have people defending them. They're probably at the point where they feel like they're in the right.
I wonder what its going to take to get this type of shit to stop happening (the over-reactions of schools/parents/police/judicial sytem). I mean, how fucked up does something have to be to really freak out the public...
"This just in!
130 7th grade boys were arrested at a school dance when teachers found the students dry humping girls to the music. Students claimed that they were just doing a dance called "freaking". One girl claimed that she felt violated when she felt a bulge in the boys pants who was "freaking" her."

Did you read the court testimony? The girls were pressured into giving false answers.

No, I missed that part. That obviously changes things then. I'll have to look at it to see what was false about their answers though.
Personally, I have two daughters, and one is the same age as these kids. I'm basing my thoughts on how I would feel if she came home telling me these things happened to her. If even half of those testimonies are true, I'd still feel a suspension was in order.
i think a punishment like suspension would be fine. but really, lots of times everything that kids do these days are being taken wayy to serious. Its one thing to harass a girl and touch her, but a simple pat on the butt can do no harm.
If a girl is in emotional distress over something like that, then she has other psychological problems as well. Kids have always played around like so, and next their going to say that we can't teach our kids to ride a bicycle without a trained professional because its too dangerous.
I just hope the whole thing gets dropped and everyone can get back to being a kid and having a life. I'm sure after all of this, the boys will be scared so much they won't touch a girl till their 18.
I think people are missing the point, read the article and court testimony closer.
The girls didn't care, they didn't report the behaviour, they didn't complain, they said this behaviour wasn't even unusual (and anyone here who remembers their early teens can attest that it has never been usual). A female aide/adult hall monitor (imagine her as a retired miserable old lady) grabbed the boys and reported it. There is absolutely no reason they should be punished at all, at worst a day of detention. The girls, the victims, didn't complain, they didn't care, its absolutely absurd for this miserable old cunt to take it upon herself to decide that the girls shouldn't be treated that way, and just as absurd that the principal and officer who interrogated the young girls tricked certain responses them to pursue this when it was harmless fun that I'm sure these disgusting and hypocritical individuals engaged in themselves when they were younger.
If the girls complained to the principal or teacher, suspend them maybe. If the boys had a record of this, and had been suspended before, and they were doing the things the cop and principal tricked out of the girl constantly, call the police and scare the shit out of them. But christ, this is normal behaviour to be engaging in, it was absolutely harmless, except in the mind of this old cunt hall aide with the dry cooch, and the principal and cop and I have no idea what they were thinking.
This District Attorney should resign in disgrace and the principal and officers should publicly apologize; I don't know what part the girl's parents played in this but I don't think it is a large one (from what I can tell they did not want to pursue this or press charges or anything). If I were that boy's mother I wouldn't stop until the DA apologized after this case is dropped (the victim is saying that nothing unusual or forciful happened and she didn't mind the behaviour).
Greatest justice system in the world... when our public officials aren't making spectacles and persecuting 13 year old boys instead of felons and gangsters. Little kids don't fight back.
lol. its funny how corporal punishment [ i believe it is called] is allowed in india, and i've heard some europeans and americans calling that backward....... this is just funny though!

sorry, who's he referring to here? The girls who had their arses slapped? Or the 13 year old boys who get interrogated by the police, slapped in handcuffs, put into detention for 5 days and proceed to shit themselves in fear of losing most of their youth in jail, while their story bounces around the world's media?
hip hop and video games slowly nurtured this behavior until it broke loose in this act of indignity towards the girls.
After the raids of their rooms, several pictures of the victims, detailed plans including layouts of the school building and drawings of angled hands clearly heading towards female behinds where found.
Michael Patterson, theology student, ex soldier and police officer was quoted
"The creases on the boys quilts indicated a strong presence of morning wood leading up to the crime. We also found some training videos which we believe to be part of a local network the boys had built up to exchange slapping techniques.
We'll be putting them on youtube and showing them in schools across the country to em barres and waist time"
The janitor is also under interrogation for collaborating by aiding the boys to cover a large quantity of asses by sliding across his extra clean and slippery floor.
Though he denies everything, excusing himself with smoking pot in the closet, the authorities at hand are sure they will link him to the happenings as the bonus on convicting a grown up matches that of 3 boys and can pay for half a year of private school cafeteria biscuits.
Yay and hurray, what a waist of time and money but that's nothing new in the battle for ignorance, short sighted thinking, bad opticians, and a general lack of empathy, understanding and communication.
Don't worry, you didn't pay the tickets to see this show but no wonder if that's the only stage you hang around another crying mother won't move you away, it's to hard to stand up in the first place anyway. Thank goodness you are sitting in the shallow part so you won't drown yet.

Is this still a dance done by kids?
