Hello Daz, Long time no see. I really need a chance to get into the industry. I see all the job post on website is senior level. If I just want to apply for a Junior level position, how do I do that? I really need to grab every opportunity possible. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Daz:

Oh, I wish those positions would be for 3DS Max users instead of Maya, then I would apply like a super-enhanced application machine!

Good luck in your search, Daz.

Bumping an ancient post, but we've had a change in recruitment staff lately, and are still looking for:

    senior character artist

    senior environment artist

    fx artist

    character TD

We're a witty, charming, devilishly handsome and talented bunch, and its infinitely more fun and exciting working for a startup than one of the behemoths. Were a small but well funded group, who knows where this thing might go? How often do you get the chance to be at the very outset of a company with huge growth potential? Isn't that a tad more exciting than working for UbiActiEASoft on sequels?

For the environment position, you get to own the look of an entire zone in the game. Our world creation tool is basically awesome. You need to have shipped a few titles previously, and be the cream of the crop.

For the character position, you're basically taking this role off of my hands, so I can concentrate on more global Art direction stuff. You also need to have shipped a few games (might be able to overlook that requirement If your creature sculpting skills are god like), and be at the very top of yours.

please submit resumes with the position applied for as the subject heading to:

    lisa@trionworld.com

(note that this is a different email address than the one earlier in the thread)

NyneDown: apologies for the uber late response. For the character position we were looking for a lead really. Someone that had shipped several games. I really needed this person to take a huge hunk of work off of my shoulders designing complex parts systems, so it's a pretty senior role.

We have some openings still in the environment roles. Prop modelers (including a lead) and senior environment artists who get to own the look of entire zones. I meant it when I said that our world creation tool is awesome. I'm talking about a level of creative investment and ownership that you just would not get at the big companies. If you have the talent and experience, I'm up for letting you just run with it with very little external input.

We have some incredible talent on board, including but not limited to Justin Sweet and his band of merry men. These guys are churning out some incredible environment and character stuff for us:

Still looking for some top tier environment talent. I'm not really talking about prop artists per se. More like people to own the look of an entire game zone. Defining the overall terrain by heightmap sculpting with our awesome in house tool, vert painting, texture creation and assignment, object integration, lighting, fog, atmospherics, working with designers to define layouts of towns, pathways, geological features, etc.

A big press release went out today for the folks who don't think we're serious:

    http://kotaku.com/5012313/trion-also-at-work-on-first+party-van-caneghem-mmo-ps3-titles

like I mention above, we have some amazing concept talent on board. It's just a shame I can't post anything yet.

If interested, please send resumes and portfolios to lisa@trionworld.com with the subject heading of 'environment artist position'.

    Thanks!

Have you tried approaching people and asking them? The ones you would concider hiring? Becuase if I owned a Company, that would be my first option.

You've just described the job of a recruiter, and we're without one currently which can make recruiting a bit of a time burden. The direct contact approach helped us fill many positions of course. It's not like we don't collectively know a ton of people in the industry (most of the co. is comprised of veteran EA and NCsoft people), but this position is pretty specialized.
Most of the people I know that might suit this role are deep in the middle of another gig, or too settled in another part of the country or world to make a big move.
The potential upsides of working for a successful startup are far greater than working for the big established companies, but you'd be surprised how many people perceive that as 'risk', which is a shame.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

In case I didn't make it clear, the sci fi channel collaborative project is happening at our San Diego studio. They've a number of positions available also. Careers page: http://www.trionworld.com/careers.php
But the environment artists positions we're looking for are for the mmo, headed up by Jon Van Caneghem of Heroes Of Might & Magic fame, at our Redwood city, CA studio.
