picked up a character I made a low poly for ages and ages ago.. pretty much completely restarting it. Here's what I got of the high Poly so far (usin the low poly bits for a bit of scale for now)
Sup jeff! This is lookin great man, It kills your old one. I would say watch some of the lumpyness on the pants and make sure it stays consistent looking with the quality of the pads.
thanks jzak, I actually haven't even gotten to the stick yet.. but i will definitely make sure it has the proper proportions.
I'm going off of my own equipment for everything.. any time i buy a new stick I like it to (when standing, with the tip of the blade on the ground) for the end of the handle to reach right up to my chin, just where it's comfortable. Gives enough room for poke checkin and whatnot. from what i've seen that's usually the average proportion that most goalies go for
Great idea cgjeff...I got full ice hockey goalie equipment as well, If you really needed some good reference I would've been willing to take some digital pictures for you. You're right about measuring the length to right under the chin.
I'm looking at the butt-end of the stick and the blade. The butt-end looks way too big and cylinder shaped.
The stick blade, I feel is too long and wide. But, you said you haven't even gotten to it yet so I wasn't sure if you were calling that completed.
I'll wait until you work on it.
Anyway, here is basically what I used when I modeled out my stick http://www.midwestskate.com/Hockey/images/SW_5030_Goalie_Stick.jpg
I'm sure the big cylinder at the end of the stick is just a loose block-in of the end of a tape job. Nothing at all wrong with a nice large tape-stopper at the end of a goalie stick.
The model is looking quite impressive so far, very crisp and clean detailing. Keep up the good work.
been a while since I got the chance to work on this. Did some quick normal map test projections.. They turned out pretty good. but I'm not really pleased with the pixel distribution in some areas. so I'll probably play around with the uvs a bit, and see if i can get them lookin better

the protection elements for the legs looks awesome!
the butt area looks like it needs some more work,
but overall great stuff!
got a little bit more done today
Nice job man, keep us posted.
Dave
small update, poly modeled the pants, and got the glove just about done.
Helmet!!
You may want to fix the proportions on the hockey stick.
Take a look at some of these large images for reference:

I think my favorite part of this however is you've got two upper NE american fellows discussing hockey. Brings a tear of joy to my eye.
