I upgraded mainly cause I had access to business edition through school for free and cause my xp install died.
It's not worth upgrading to just yet. I'd wait until probably next January. I havn't found anything making me want to keep vista over xp. games tend to run a little slower within vista due to how dx 9 is handled.
i quite like vista, i stole the ultimate x64 version from microsoft, and i've loved every second of it.
i even enjoyed hunting for 64 bit drivers for everything, was kinda fun! and now it works, it's hella fast, and extremely stable, i've yet to have the entire OS crash on me. max runs great, along with photoshop, and Logic Pro (essentials for me...)
on the downside, some games don't run too well, but then again, others run very well.
I have Vista Ultimate as well. I love it, but drive/hardware/software support is still a bit weak right now. Unless you have a dire need for cutting-edge tech, I'd wait until Vista SP1 comes out (later this year).
Is there a way to use Max or Maya 64-bit versions without Vista (there is XP64 or whatever but I have no idea how that is... actually I have an install disc MS sent me still sitting somewhere but never was brave enough to try it).
I like Vista a lot, but unfortunately Photoshop CS2 runs like shit on it so I'm usually forced to boot my XP install. Adobe has announced it is not going to make any kind of patch to fix it either.
Yeah, photoshop CS2 is utter shit under Vista right now, for me at work at least. Can't even keep it open for 5 min before it sucks up all the unused RAM on my system and completely bogs down everything. CS3 seems ok on Vista but still not that good.

Vista is...
so...
so cold.
Of course I can't upgrade at work since the Xbox 360 XDK isn't compatible yet.
