I've been reading http://www.chud.com/ and http://www.aintitcool.com/ tonight, their respective rumours /semi-confirmed talk about the cast so far for the Watchmen actually makes me dare to hope it might be worth watching.
Perhaps the most convincing information about my reasons for leaning toward being hopeful is the fact that Keanu Reeves was rejected for the role of Doctor Manhattan because he wanted too much money and brought too much baggage to the role.
300 was big dumb fun and I think an easier proposition as far as source material which made for an enjoyable experience if you turned your brain off.
The fact that you can't turn off your brain to direct or view Watchmen has always worried me, but the actor vs star choices for the roles so far are solid.
i agree with you guys---im worried that condensing it for a film will take away all that made watchmen.. BUT the director is skilled..300 was silly, but pretty... maybe watchmen will be a bridge for him to a more fitting style of filmmaking. It'll be nice to look at at least.
on a side note--I could see keanu being a good manhattan. Keanu's body type is limber enough, and his acting is emotionless and plastic enough to...well...actually work for manhattan. All the same; probably good he's not involved. More money for special FX.

[/ QUOTE ]I think I'd want a fairly sizable pay cheque if I had to spend most of the shooting cycle in nothing but blue body paint.

... but think of all the goth chicks you'd score with that eye make-up
This is shaping up to be something worth keeping an eye on. I'm afraid I'm going to be very hard to please though... I remember waiting every month back in the day for my Watchmen order to be delivered to my local comics store.. And being subsequently blown away - every time.
Jeezus, I just re-read that and realised it was over twenty years ago...
Jackie Earle Haley was the young, hood pitcher in "The Bad News Bears" and he was the little dude you would get pissed, wrap his hand in a towel, and knock the hell out of you, in "Breaking Away".
He is one of those ugly guys that you will recognize, that are great character actors!
Yeah, 20 years. I'm ashamed to say I bought all the Watchmen when they came out, in multiple issues even. Yet I don't really think I paid much attention to it.
I guess I should dig them out and give them a good once over!

The story just doesnt seem to lend itself to cinema very well..would be better as an hbo miniseries...something along those lines...
I hope it's good though...fingers crossed
Jane is perfect as comedian..and that Haley guy, whoever he is, looks like he fits the bill for rorshach perfect. The Owl looks a bit too young and pretty--in my opinion you need a bit of a heavier face--not much, just a bit--like this guy: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0396752/Ss/0396752/5595_00097ER.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Firth,%20Colin
