I dont watch the show but my brother linked me to a clip of a shy, softspoken phones salesman who has a dream to become an opera singer .. and ... well just watch the video...

suffice it to say, I almost teared after that performance.
I have always been astounded by the power of beautiful classical music/song to provoke such deep emotions no matter the social, cultural and linguistic barrier.
And especially contrasted by this timid personality, I truly want to see this man go far.
If any britons have more information about this man, please do share..

Wow wtf ! How does someone like that slip through the cracks it's hard to believe that someone with that much voice talent never got a shot ?? I mean it would be like Kenneth Scott working at Target stocking shelves cause nobody ever noticed he was good artist. I just didn't know super talents could get looked over like that ...

Being talented at one thing does not mean you enjoy being up in peoples faces about it. Unfortunately I think a lot of talent in this world goes unnoticed because of this. Season 6 of The Apprentice is a very good example of this.
But can't deny he's got a good voice.

That guy (Paul Potts) isn't really a newcomer either...
"A student of Ian Comboy, Paul has appeared on national and local television and radio. He has spent two summers touring Northern Italy training with one of the major opera schools, and has taken part in masterclasses with Vilma Vernocchi, Katia Ricciarelli and Luciano Pavarotti. He has also performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. With Bath Opera he has sung the roles of Don Basilio (Marriage of Figaro), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and the title role in Verdi's Don Carlos. Future plans include the role of Chevalier des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) for Southgate Opera, London, and another concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the summer. "

lol
The guy is very good, but you didn't need to watch the whole video to know, as soon as it said he was from Wales you knew he could sing.
I like how Holden refers to him as a lump of coal! Oh and er, good job correcting the spelling Fuse Amazing voice, makes me wish I had a talent.

I don't think he has the voice to make it in opera. It sounds like he didn't get the early training for it and after 35 your voice is done changing. Doesn't mean he has a *bad voice, just not one that could give a 2-3 hour performance and be comparable to professional opera singers.
[/ QUOTE ]It's about bums on seats, being on that show and doing what he *has* done has pretty much guaranteed him a career of some description (so long as he doesn't do a monumental FU somewhere along the line). He's already sung opera under professional circumstances (but not *as* a Pro, he wouldn't be allowed on the show if he were), all he needs is experience and further training.
