I've only been to Washington Airport so I haven't seen the monument in question, but it always seemed thinner or taller in films. The one in the trailer is looking shorter or wider than I figured the monument would be.
I just went and watched the remastered version of the e32006 mgs trailer thats floating around now. I'd just finished rewatching the fallout 2 intro for nostalgia and laughed when I realised :
War.....War Never changes (fallout)
War has changed (mgs)
Quite random to end up seeing them both in the same day.
Loved Fallout 1 and 2 but I have series doubts I'll love this. One thing that bothers me is that Bethesda turned down help offerings from the team behind the first two games. Why? Secondly, I didn't like Oblivion at all since it didn't have interesting characters or a decent plot to follow. I also hope the PC version isn't watered down and consolized because of multiplatforming. I want my grim and mature post apocalyptic roleplaying game, preferably in isometric or at least 3rd person view with turn based combat. I seriously hope they can live up to the prequels but I just have my doubts.
And I didn't want to post this as a flame bait, I'm just frustrated since roleplaying equals action adventure nowadays.
The difference between Oblivion and Fallout, character wise is that most of the populous in Fallout is dead. Oblivion had to result to generic speech snippets where I'd expect Fallout's smaller population allower for much more focused, specifically written dialogue for each character.
I believe a sizable chunk of the design team amongst various others have been replaced since Oblivion, so its probably not really worth speculating too much on the possible similarities at the point.
NMA has Game Informer's ten page article on the game. The combat system sounds kinda weird, but otherwise I'm liking what I see. The NMA residents are frothing with rage, as per usual. http://www.nma-fallout.com/
I like what I am hearing and seeing so far. As a fan of Fallout 1 & 2 I am encouraged by the article Jackablade mentioned. Sounds like they have some really interesting ideas going. Personally I am not too bothered about the fact that the game isn't a turn-based isometric viewpoint RPG. To me that's not really what Fallout was about. It was about the richness of the world and characters and the dark sense of humour. The ability to make choices in an environment of moral ambiguity and suffer the consequences of those choices. Playing Fallout again now makes me realise how much these elements were key in setting these games apart from other RPGs at the time. The combat system was never perfect and was clumsy and frustrating at times but I played on anyway because I was mesmerised by this bizarre 1950s vision of a post-apocalyptic world.
The Game Informer article mentions that Istvan Pely is lead artist on the project. Can anyone confirm if this is the same chap who owns this website(http://www.movkup.com/)?
Edit: Corrected some grammatical errors in my post.
Game Informer has a great article that goes in-depth on the game. So far they have some craaaazy looking baddies, and you get to wield a personal nuke launcher! Can't wait!

I don't understand people who don't play video games, they miss out on things like that!
