Diablo crashing after Blizzard Intro

Hey all, I was out today and saw the Diable Battlechest for a ridiculously low price so I picked it up. I had never really played any of the Diablo games and thought it was about time I gave them a crack.
Though I'm having issues running Diablo, I've installed and updated but it always crashes after the Blizzard intro. I've tried running it from a fresh install without the update with the same result.
Does anyone else have this issue or know a work around for it?

PC specs:
OS: WinXP Pro
CPU: Pentium D 3.2Ghz
RAM: 2GB
Vid: GeForce 7900 GTX

Even if you don't have this issue, just let me know you are able to run it under WinXP, so I know the issue is on my end. Thanks.

Oh, and Diablo II runs fine only having issues with the first one.

The game is, seriously, doing you a favor.
I cannot stand to play the older Diablo games because, to be honest, the graphics hurt my eyes.

There is a option to set the properties of a "exe" to run in a emulated enviroment ie "Dos, win 95, 98 etc" there should be compatiblitly tab when you view the properties, that might work?

yeah, I gave that a try. When I run win95 or win98/Me, it doesn't detect the disk, when I set it to winNT or win2000 it loads but it still crashes after the Blizzard intro. I even used the winNT update patch while using the winNT compatibility option.
I even tried a no CD patch just incase the win95 and win98/Me versions work, but nope. Same problem. Screw it... I'll just skip it and go straight to Diablo II.

weird, doesn't have this issue on my computer, and the only main difference is the video hardware (Radeon). Tried switching the video to low res video playback? (the geforce7 might not like diablo's scale blitter)

Diablo 1 is totally better than d2, but past that I have nothing anywhere near helpful to add.

GAH! I just solved it! It was my dual monitor setup. As soon as I set it to single monitor, it worked fine.
Thanks to those of you who replied, and Cheapy, you're the one that kept me going as soon as you said your's runs fine.

Diablo2 is vastly superior of a game, specialy with expansion. Holden and i got on a kick several months back where we were playing the shits out of D2

D2 is far superior but D1 is pretty quick game and worth playing through just because its a classic. When I got that game I played through the entire thing in one sitting right after installing it.
