Apologies If this has been posted, couldn't find anything:

"...a new technology from Microsoft Live Labs that takes a large collection of photos of a place or an object, analyzes them for similarities, and displays them in a reconstructed three-dimensional space."

So if I took a thousand pictures of my penis and balls... this new tool can remake it in 3d for me?
    Wonderful!

Wow, that is awesome. Both of the techs showed were great. I really look forward to seeing how the Photosynth evolves as well. Could make looking for reference images a hell of a lot easier.

Wow that whole flickr Notre Dame Cathedral demo was awesome. Man this is awesome stuff and it's coming from Microsoft.

Combine this stuff with the Surface thing they are working on and BLAM awesome stuff.

Very cool! Thanks for the links and info Daz.
My brother did a similar sort of project for his final university engineering project last year, although not on such a grand scale - basically just something that will load any amount of photos and match them up (basically the same theory as AutoStitch or whatever that app is called) - all of the data for finding relative 3d angles is there provided you have enough source images and probably a guideline for which direction "up" is.

The Sea Dragon (C-Dragon? not sure how they're spelling it) looks awesome too, that'll be a great way to browse and organise reference images.

I can see it working well with Microsoft Surface too, especially the newspaper thing - you can just have the latest news updates, arranged in traditional newspaper format, fully browsable and downloadable onto the digital coffee table. I imagine that'd be a big hit in business-class airline lounges, hotel foyers etc.
