Hey guys, had some free time and decided to work on sumthing quick and fun.
Its a little hi-poly, but its an fps model. I will probably get a test compile for CSS, so stay tuned for some ingame shots.
Textures look nice, I wonder if you really need all those extra edges running down the body of the grenade, they don't look like they're adding any silhouette, or anything that the normal map couldn't do. Nearly 2000 triangles seems a tad high for just a grenade... I reckon you could get it down to at least 1500 without losing any detail or shape at all.
yep i totally agree, i got it down to 1400 sumthin tris with those loops gone.
although from some angles the smoothing looks that bit more rounded and nicer, but im not sure its worth the extra 400 tris. hmmm.
Also keep in mind the grenade will be held in a hand for 95% of the time it's on screen, which will help hide the silhouette if you wanted to knock off a few polys.
Difffuse and spec look good, normal map is really making it all look bad tho. Did you model a highres mesh for this? That would help a LOT if you rendered out normals from a highres, isntead of just using a converted bump map.
Also theres some really funky geometry on the "neck" of the grenaded.

It's nice, but... how would a grenade get that beaten up? They aren't exactly reusable.

Well maybe a grenade that belongs to US forces wouldn't be that beat up but have you seen what weapons look like that are recovered from insurgents and other forces look like? They are beat to hell. Many much worse than this.
