To give a crit though, I do think the fine detail on there is too much. It almost looks scabby and lumpy like a zerg rather than a Toss. (Yeah, they're related, but distantly) Should be a little smoother imo.
dejawolf- i don't have a super machine either, this was done in zb3, around 1.4 million polygons, on a pentium mobile 2Ghz laptp, 2Gb ram and a Geforce go 6800.
... i'm not that big of a SC geek, but my brother was a Protoss player and this stuff is like background radiation, as if you can avoid it
i think you're teasing us with the bust version--what about a full body sculpt, or something like the colored version you posted in the what are you working on thread or the SC2 GD thread? regardless, good stuff man and let's have some more
poop- gonna try to make them look like they've been severed off
conte- i posted an earlier wip sculpt there and decided to give it its own thread since i'm going to spend more time on this piece.
gauss- protoss FTW!! dark templar rush. hehe, i'm going to work a little more for the bust and once i have something more concrete and final, i will have more of an idea what to do with the body.
Snowfly- gonna finish the head first and see how it goes...e3 right round the corner. GASP!
thanks for the nice comments guys. I took a lot of feedback from sc fans alike and refined the sculpt to this version you see, the first wip post looked a little off in terms of proportion.
My instincts tell me that the face should be smoother than the forehead instead of the other way around. Perhaps the tips of his cranial ridges should feel a bit worn, or stretched... a hint at how his physiology evolved as he grew from childhood. I love the form! Top notch.
good pointers guys. I will take note, hopefully I can include that physiology part into the texture work and play around with the lowpoly volumes to get something decent.
the lower part of his forehead is actually supposed to be softer but not like baby skin soft, thats where his brain is...oooh now we are going into protoss anatomy..irk!
Great modeling all arround. I like the proportions and silhouette. I also think that he looks like a stone. I would suggest to change the cracks on the end of the bone structure, to avoid stone look. Also I think you could define the face muscles more organic like (around bones and soft intersections) especially the cheeks and mouth. You lost some focus on the face, when adding small detailes (cracks) to his main features, but that could be fake illusion because of temporal texture. Can't wait to see some more.
Dom: Thats a screen from the viewport? How'd you get the eyes to glow like that? Self illumination only seems to make shadows not affect the map by default as opposed to actualy making it glow. Is their a particular setting that generates the effect where light actualy emits off the model irt?

Not sure but he may just be using a glow function on a material under the effects tab and have it set to the eyeballs material to emit a glow and light.

Any suggestions, crits, whatsoever, just shoot. Thanks

More organic coloration of the skin would be welcome. It can still be dark, but the shapes & colors look more like granite than flesh.
